As I mentioned on Friday GABF was this weekend. Unfortunately, only one St. Louis brewery came back with some medals:
- Category: 12 Gluten Free Beer - 8 Entries Gold: RedBridge, Anheuser-Busch, Inc., St. Louis, MO Silver: New Grist, Lakefront Brewery, Milwaukee, WI Bronze: Shakparo Ale, Sprecher Brewing Co., Glendale, WI
- Category: 29 German Style Marzen - 58 Entries Gold: Victory Festbier, Victory Brewing Co., Downingtown, PA Silver: Stewart’s Oktoberfest, Stewart’s Brewing Co., Bear, DE Bronze: Michelob Marzen, Anheuser-Busch, Inc., St. Louis, MO
Congrats to AB, I’ve never actually had their Marzen, I’ll have to give it a go sometime.
In other news Derek from O’Fallon Brewery has passed along the info that the brewery is sold out of Pumpkin Ale. What you see on your store shelves is all you’ll see for the rest of the season. They’re gearing up for their newest seasonal Goat’s Breath Bock Ale.
Paul from The Wine and Cheese Place has informed me of two new beers they have in. One is the Buffalo Belgian Stout from Brouwerij Van den Bossch, which I believe is the only Belgian Stout available in St. Louis. The other is Bell’s Best Brown Ale, which is one of their winter seasonals.
One last beer note is that yesterday I saw that the Schlafly Coffee Stout brewed with Kaldi’s coffee has hit store shelves. If you’re a fan, be sure to look out for it.
Thanks to Dave for catching the Bell’s error.

As a raging Bell’s fan, it is worth noting that Best Brown is not their only winter seasonal. There’s Winter White as well, plus a host of beers that are only released in the winter months - Java Stout, Expedition Stout, Special Double Cream Stout, Third Coast Old Ale, Cherry Stout, plus three very limited release beers, Consecrator Dopplebock, Sparkling Ale and Hop Slam. Winter is a good time to be a Bell’s fan.
Keep up the good work with the blog. I’m enjoying it!

Mike should have known too, because I brought back the Winter White, Special Double Cream Stout, Third Coast Ale, and Consecrator Dopplebock from my trip to Michigan this year.
I just had the last Dopplebock Saturday as a matter of fact, and it was everything I remembered it to be. My only regret is that I didn’t buy more double cream stout and winter white as they were both excellent as well.
I can’t wait for them!

Special Double Cream Stout is my favorite. First batch was already bottled this year, but Glazer’s isn’t expecting any locally until mid-November (per Jake at 33). Gonna be a long month . . . .

Mike,
I saw you have not had the Michelob Marzen brew. I would love to send you a sampler. Please email me your mailing information and I will send you some.
Thank you!
Matt

I recently found a bottle of Kaldi’s Coffee Stout from last year’s release in the back of my refrigerator. (Which is especially surprising as I moved this summer.) I don’t suppose this has aged well, has it?

I actually have some from last year too. I want to drink it, but everytime I reach for it, it’s 10 o’clock. Not really looking for a coffee buzz at that time of night.
