Two New Local Beers Released
August 21, 2008 9:22 am Beer NewsDrew Huerter, brewer extraordinaire, emailed to let me in on a couple of news beers in the area that are very worthy of your attention. Since Drew not only works for Morgan Street, but also Schlafly and Mattingly Brothers, he has his finger on the pulse for all of the cool releases in St. Louis.
Oak Aged Cask Oatmeal Stout at Schlafly Tap Room - That just sounds awesome, doesn’t it? I know I was pretty excited when he first told me about this beer about a month ago, but now it’s finally on cask. Here’s a few words from him about it:
Brennan and I are experimenting with differing toast/char levels and methods with miniature oak staves from Missouri World Cooperage. We are yet to even try it, but are excited nonetheless.
Dark Wheat at Morgan Street - Drew tells me that this beer is back after a seven year hiatus. Sadly, I haven’t made my way down to Morgan Street in quite some time, it looks like I have a great excuse now:

That would look good on a business card, Mike. Thanks.
The Oak is pretty sublte right now but it will be really fun to see how this on changes over time and the three firkins we filled.

Is the Oatmeal Stout available right now? I think this may be a good excuse to go to the Tap Room tonight. How about an informal STL Hops event?

Don’t let me stop you guys from meeting up, but unfortunately I have a Fantasy Football draft tonight that I’m committed to.

What about a Morgan Street visit sometime soon? I haven’t been there in over a year.

Should we just schedule a day each month to visit some of these awesome places around town? Nothing fancy, we just all meet up beforehand and then sit down to dinner or for some beers?

I’m a big fan of the pick a day plan. It’s kinda like a very extended STL Brews Tour.

Cask 2 of the Oak Oat is on and the oak is more pronounced and beautifully balanced. The next cask to go on is more Simcoe APA then another Oak Oat.
On Monday I’ll be making more casks of Simcoe APA.
