The World Beer Cup awards were held this weekend and two local craft breweries came home with some gold.
Schlafly took home a gold in the German-Style Kӧlsch/Kӧln-Style Kӧlsch category with their Schlafly Kolsch. I believe this is the first time that Schlafly has entered this competition, so it’s very impressive to come up with a gold the first time out of the gate.
Morgan Street Brewery also brought back a gold medal with their Golden Pilsner in the Bohemian-Style Pilsener category.
While us beer drinkers in St. Louis have known for years that we have some great local breweries, what’s most impressive about both of these wins is this is a worldwide competition that has entries from all over the globe. Meaning that Schlafly and Morgan Street beat out some of the best from Europe including beers from Germany and the Czech Republic.
Congrats to both breweries on the wins, they’re very well deserved.
