Last week I was wearing a sweater and now I’m sweating? I guess we can say that spring is official here.

Urban Chestnut Brewing Company is helping to celebrate spring and has brought back their  Maifest festival. Taking place this Saturday, May 9th at their Midtown location, this will certainly be a party that would make Bacchus blush.

Along with BBQ from UCBC’s Andy Fair, Smoki-O’s and Matthew’s Kitchen, you will also be able to enjoy some of the fresh bock beer UCBC brewed especially for this celebration of spring.

The best part about this festival?  It’s free.  There are no ticket charges, just come out between 12PM-6PM on Saturday, May 9th and purchase beer and food to sample throughout the day.  There will be commemorative t-shirts and glassware available for purchase as well.

Saturday, May 9th will be a great opportunity to rock out with your bock out at UCBC.

You may be saying, “Whoa, wait, I don’t remember seeing a Urban Chestnut Brewing Company Wolpertinger contest!” If you didn’t, that’s because you may not be part of our STL Hops Insider Email. We’ll be doing special contests like this in the future, so make sure to sign up using the form on the right side of this page.

That’s enough of that self-serving garbage, without further ado, the winner of the two tickets to this event is Christopher Meyer. Congrats to Christopher and thanks to everyone who entered.

Thanks also to UCBC for giving us the tickets to give away.  Tickets for Wolpertinger are still available, buy them here!

Urban Chestnut Brewing Company has had a crazy four years since they opened their doors in 2011. Has any other local brewery has quite the explosion that UCBC has had?

Since their opening we’ve seen them grow from their beautiful space in midtown to an enormous and gorgeous in the Grove. We’ve seen their tap handles pop up all over town and now bottled beer hit the shelves.

We’ve seen them grow from selling beer just in the St. Louis area to expanding their footprint to Kansas City, southern Illinois, and even Indianapolis.  And if that wasn’t enough, just this week they announced that they purchased a small brewery in co-owner and brewmaster Florian Kuplent’s homeland of Bavaria.

It’s eye-popping to see how much they’ve grown.  But they’re still a local brewery at heart.  To celebrate this enormous success UCBC is throwing their 4th annual Wolpertinger festival next Sunday, January 25th from 1-5PM at their Grove Brewery and Bierhall.

$35 (or $40 day of) will get you a chance to sample beers from over 30 breweries including special guest Sun King Brewing out of Indianapolis. Come out and celebrate all of UCBC’s success with a great festival!

Oh and if you’re wondering what a wolpertinger is, other than being a fantastic beer festival, UCBC has provided this colorful description here:

For you newbies (or those that might need a refresher) … a wolpertinger is a small (or large depending on your perspective), primarily nocturnal mammal that inhabits the alpine forests of Bavaria. He’s quite rare, but we annually work with our hop growers in Hallertau to ‘import’ one of the little fellas for the special occasion. Mostly nocturnal, our “Wolpie” makes his grand appearance at the back end of the festival, which also coincides with our very limited release of his namesake UCBC beer.  Wolpie will also be honoring what he recognizes as the “best-costumed Wolpertingers” who will be rewarded!

ucbcUrban Chestnut Brewing Company is feeling festive. To put you into the holiday mood, UCBC has put together a new variety pack featuring four beers never bottled by UCBC, three of which are brand new beers.

To celebrate this new holiday variety pack, Urban Chestnut is heading out to 33 Wine Bar on Tuesday, November 25th to throw a tap takeover featuring all four beers. This will be the first time that these beers will be available outside of a UCBC location. Beginning tomorrow at 3:30PM, the four beers being poured are:

  • Fantasyland – Mid West Coast IPA
  • HMS (Her Majesty’s Ship) – English IPA
  • Stammtisch – German Pils
  • SLIPILS (St. Louis Imperial Pilsner)

I’ve been told UCBC Co-Founder and Brewmaster Florian Kuplent will be in attendance as well. And if all of this wasn’t enough to get your interest, they will also be giving away logoed glass to the first 24 people and there will be discounted variety packs available for sale to go.

Get into the holiday spirit and head out to 33 Wine tomorrow!

ucbcWe all know that craft beer is growing by leaps and bounds. But there’s growth and then there’s growth. The way Urban Chestnut Brewing Company continues to expand, they certainly fall into that latter category.

The new location in the Grove has provided not only dynamite food and beer, but has also given St. Louis a from ground up craft brewery destination experience. But that new brewery isn’t just for show, it was to help UCBC grow.

Now that UCBC has 20,000bbls of capacity online, they’re expanding deeper into Missouri.  Beginning this week, UCBC has partnered with NH Scheppers Distributing to bring their Revolution and Reverence beers to Jefferson City and Columbia, Missouri.

But what if you live farther west?  Say, for instance, Kansas City? Well, no worries, UCBC will be partnering with Major Brands to provide beer to the KC market later this year.

“We’ve been more than eager to supply our beer to these markets for some time now. Columbia’s a natural extension of the St. Louis beer market, Jefferson City is obviously our state’s capitol, and Kansas City…plain and simple knows good beer,” says David Wolfe, co-founder of UCBC, in a press release.

It’s exciting to see our local breweries produce not only some of the best beer in the country, but also provide that beer to more and more people.

How are we only 5 days away from May and I’m still wearing a sweater? I didn’t see them myself, but I know there were even some snow flurries the other day. That’s crazy talk.  We need spring and we need it now.
