We’ll make this an easy (and quick) contest, just email contest@stlhops.com with Wolpertinger as the subject. I’ll pick two winners (and you’ll each get a pair of tickets a piece) on Friday, January 20th at 9AM. A couple of quick notes:

  • If you’ve won something from STL Hops in the past 6 months, please be cool and let someone else enter.
  • You must be 21 or older to enter.
  • No multiple entries.

If you don’t win this one, don’t worry I will be holding more contests like this in the future, so you’ll have another chance then. Good luck!

Last week I was wearing a sweater and now I’m sweating? I guess we can say that spring is official here.

Urban Chestnut Brewing Company is helping to celebrate spring and has brought back their  Maifest festival. Taking place this Saturday, May 14th at their Midtown location, this will certainly be a party that would make Bacchus blush.

Along with BBQ from UCBC’s Andy Fair and special guests, you will also be able to enjoy some of the fresh bock beer UCBC brewed especially for this celebration of spring.

The best part about this festival?  It’s free.  There are no ticket charges, just come out between 12PM-10PM on Saturday, May 14th and purchase beer and food to sample throughout the day.  There will be commemorative t-shirts and glassware available for purchase as well.

There is also an $18 festival package available that includes a commemorative glass, a food ticket, and three beer tickets and three tickets good for either food or beer. Individual beer and food tickets may be purchased for $6 apiece.

Saturday, May 14th will be a great opportunity to rock out with your bock out at UCBC.

Urban Chestnut Brewing Company has had a crazy five years since they opened their doors in 2011. Has any other local brewery has quite the explosion that UCBC has had?

Since their opening we’ve seen them grow from their beautiful space in midtown to an enormous and gorgeous in the Grove. We’ve seen their tap handles pop up all over town and now bottled beer hit the shelves.

We’ve seen them grow from selling beer just in the St. Louis area to expanding their footprint to Kansas City, southern Illinois, and even Indianapolis.  And if that wasn’t enough, they even expanded to Europe when they purchased a small brewery in co-owner and brewmaster Florian Kuplent’s homeland of Bavaria.

It’s eye-popping to see how much they’ve grown.  But they’re still a local brewery at heart.  To celebrate this enormous success UCBC is throwing their 5th annual Wolpertinger festival on Sunday, January 24th from 1-5PM at their Grove Brewery and Bierhall.

$35 (or $40 day of) will get you a chance to sample beers from over 30 breweries including special guest Deschutes Brewery out of Bend, Oregon. Come out and celebrate all of UCBC’s success with a great festival!

Oh and if you’re wondering what a wolpertinger is, other than being a fantastic beer festival, UCBC has provided this colorful description here:

For you newbies (or those that might need a refresher) … a wolpertinger is a small (or large depending on your perspective), primarily nocturnal mammal that inhabits the alpine forests of Bavaria. He’s quite rare, but we annually work with our hop growers in Hallertau to ‘import’ one of the little fellas for the special occasion. Mostly nocturnal, our “Wolpie” makes his grand appearance at the back end of the festival, which also coincides with our very limited release of his namesake UCBC beer.  Wolpie will also be honoring what he recognizes as the “best-costumed Wolpertingers” who will be rewarded!

I’ve often said, it takes a real German to put on an authentic Oktoberfest. OK, I don’t I’ve ever said that, but I say a lot of things when I’ve had a few beers that I rarely remember, so it may still be something I’ve said.

But it’s got to be true, right? I mean, when the Urban Chestnut Brewing Company‘s brewmaster Florian Kuplent is straight out of Munich, the home of the original Oktoberfest, so he and the crew at UCBC have the skills to put on an authentic festival.

Well, this Saturday and Sunday is your chance to find out that UCBC has what it takes to put on an authentic style Oktoberfest here in your own back yard. Here are the details for this weekend’s event:
