stable_128x126.jpgTwo casks in two weeks at The Stable?  Maybe it’s time to put in a permanent cask system? (Wink, wink. Nod, nod.)  Tonight, we’re provided with one of my personal favorite beers, Founders Red’s Rye PA on cask.

The tapping of this cask will begin at 6PM and the event will last as long as the cask keeps pouring.  While cask beer may not always be a religious experience, it is pretty darn great.  This is the kind of thing that we keep asking for, so we need to be the ones who go out and support it.

mattingly_84x128.jpgAfter the sudden closure of Mattingly Brewing Company back on July 1st, one of the most popular questions was, “What’s happening to all of the beer that’s just sitting at Mattingly?”  Well, I received word yesterday that The Stable has formalized a plan to acquire the remainder of beer from Mattingly Brewery.

On Wednesday, September 1st from 6:00 – 9:00 pm The Stable will be putting on an event where they’ll be serving up Mattingly beer.  I’ve been told that Drew Huerter will be picking out what beers thet Stable will be serving and Doug Mattingly will be on hand. Beer will be $3 a pint and $10 pitchers.

As the Stable’s Brad Wheeling puts it, “We are really excited about being able to do this. It would have been a shame for all the hard work and effort that went in to creating their beer go to waste. ”

Even after the event on September 1st, it’s probably going to be likely that The Stable will still have a lot of Mattingly beer on hand.  They’ve exploring the possibility of  other events in the near future.  For those of us that didn’t get a chance, this will be a great way for us Mattingly fans to give them a proper farewell.

stable_128x126.jpgYou have to give it to The Stable, they’re not one to rest upon the 2009 Best Beer Selection in a Restaurant award from the Riverfront Times, they’re always trying to push the envelope. So it should be no surprise that they’re always trying to find ways to tug at a beer geek’s heart.

This Saturday, August 28th, beginning at 6PM, you’ll have a chance to purchase pints of the Bell’s Porter on cask from Bell’s Brewery. Here’s a description of the beer from Bell’s website:

A robust porter for all occasions. A blend of dark malts give this beer flavors of coffee and chocolate with subtle roasted notes.Gold medal winner in the Brown Porter category Brewers Association World Beer Cup 2008. Original Gravity: 1.055, Alcohol by Volume: 5.6%

Exciting stuff. Many of us have been begging for more cask ale in the St. Louis area and The Stable, as always, has been listening.

stable_128x126.jpgI’m pleased to announce that the winner for the two tickets to the The Stable’s Second Anniversary Party is James Barnett! Congrats to James and thank you everyone for entering.

I want to thank Brad Wheeling from Amalgamated Brewing for providing the tickets to this event and congrats to them on their second anniversary. Don’t forget, if you don’t win this one, don’t worry I will be holding more contests like this in the future, so you’ll have another chance then.

stable_128x126.jpg If you were paying close attention to the post about The Stable’s Second Anniversary party, you would have noticed that you’ll have over 36 different draught beers to drink.  If you’ve been paying even closer attention, you’d know that The Stable actually only has 24 taps.   Not any more.

I’m happy to announce that The Stable has added 12 more draught beers to their already impressive line-up, to bring the total to 36.  To celebrate the occasion, they’re going to break out some awesome draught beers.  On Thursday, June 17th, starting at 6PM, here’s just just a few items that’ll be available:

  • Bell’s Hopslam
  • Bell’s Batch 9000
  • Sierra Nevada 30th Anniversary Ale (Fritz and Ken’s)
  • Amalgamated Rum Aged Porter
  • New Holland Envious

I’m sure most of these won’t last long, so if you want to try them, I’d make sure to get out there tomorrow.

The Stable is here to remind you, they’re still here. In fact, they’ve been here for two years. In fact, to celebrate two years of being one of the best beer bars in St. Louis, they’re throwing a party.

On Saturday, June 19th from 2PM-5PM will be hosting their “We’re Not Dead Yet!” Anniversary Party. $25 ($30 day of) will get you a chance to sample their 36 different draught beers and also some munchies as well.

Stay tuned as STL Hops will be offering up some complimentary tickets next week for this event.
