theogBeer and trivia. These are two things I love. You know another thing that I love? That we now have a few groups in St. Louis promoting women and beer.

One of those groups is the OG: St. Louis Women’s Craft Beer Collective. To celebrate their first anniversary they’re throwing a Beer Trivia Fundraiser this Friday, February 5th at the Sqwires Annex.

Their non-profit club is using the event to raise some funds to help further their cause and have put together a trivia night to test your beer knowledge and to have a bit of fun as well. Beginning at 7PM, your team of four (or less, if you’re feeling super-smart) will have five rounds of beer-themed trivia to enjoy.

The cost is $100 per table which will include appetizers, door prizes, and of course the trivia. There will be prizes for each round and a grand prize for the team with the highest score. You can sign up for this fun event via Brown Paper Tickets. Don’t miss out!

fraisecasseeCollaborations not only allow brewers to work on something together, but also usually provide some unique creations.  Such is the case when Six Row Brewing was approached by The OG, the St. Louis Women’s Craft Beer Collective, to brew up a a special beer they’re calling Fraise Cassèe.

Avid homebrewers Abbey Spencer and Kathy DeLassus developed the recipe for Fraise Cassèe last year and debuted it at the Flying Saucer.  It was such a hit that Evan Hiatt from Six Row was eager to work with Abbey and Kathy to scale this up to a full batch.  Here’s a description of the beer:

Fraise Cassèe (Broken Strawberry) is The OG’s signature Strawberry Saison recipe brewed in collaboration with Six Row Brewing COmpany. A traditional saison with the addition of pureed strawberry makes for a delightfully tart and dry ale with a hint of black pepper and a strawberry finish.

Beginning the first week of April you’ll be begin seeing a limited amount of bottles and draft around the St. Louis area.  And of course you’ll be able to find some at the Six Row tasting room as well. A perfect beer for the beginning of spring!

3-women-logoI love a good super group. Blind Faith, Traveling Wilburys, New Pornographers… the list goes on. Great musicians getting together to create something awesome.

We have three different groups of women in St. Louis that are all trying to promote women in craft beer. They’ve joined forces to create three events providing not only camaraderie for women, but delicious beer and education as well. Here’s a look at the events:

The OG, Femme Ferment, and Girls Pint Out will kick off their “Biére de Girls” series with an interactive homebrew-style event at O’Fallon Brewery on March 15. This ticketed event will offer women a chance to watch and engage in brewing one of four unique beer styles, from milling to mashing to grain out.

The second event in the series will be a lesson on tasting, beer styles, and food and beer pairings, held at 33 Wine Shop in Lafayette Square on April 6. Beers indicative of the styles brewed at the first event will be featured this evening.

The series wraps up with a happy hour and keep-the-glass tasting event at Heavy Riff Brewing Co. in Dogtown on April 27, where the four homebrews will be featured, along with a line up of other local and national craft beer favorites.

The brew day and educational pairing and tasting event are open to women only, and no prior brewing experience is required. The keep-the-glass night is open to all.

Tickets for individual events or the full series are available through Brown Paper Tickets, linked at each group’s website.

theog2014 might go down as the year that the women who brew, sell, and drink craft beer in St. Louis made their voices heard. We’ve seen Girls Pint Out, Femme Ferment, and the Pink Boot Society all plant roots in St. Louis, but there is always room for more passion and more voices, especially when it comes to showing how much fervor and fire St. Louis women have about craft beer.

The OG is a new group of women interested in the continued education and involvement of women in craft beer. To kick off this group, the OG has paired with Flying Saucer to not only debut a beer brewed by the group, but also do some good as well.

Part of the OG’s mission is to not only be involved with the craft beer community, but also be a positive influence on those around them. As I mentioned earlier, the group brewed a strawberry saison they’ve named “Fraise Cassee”, the Flying Saucer will be pouring this beer beginning at 5PM on September 26th.

As part of being a good community partner, all proceeds of the event will be donated to Operation Food Search. Glasses of Fraise Casse will be available for purchase for a suggested donation.  There will also be raffle tickets available as well with chances to win gift certificates, bottles of Fraise Cassee, and more.
