Urban Chestnut Brewing Company has had a crazy four years since they opened their doors in 2011. Has any other local brewery has quite the explosion that UCBC has had?

Since their opening we’ve seen them grow from their beautiful space in midtown to an enormous and gorgeous in the Grove. We’ve seen their tap handles pop up all over town and now bottled beer hit the shelves.

We’ve seen them grow from selling beer just in the St. Louis area to expanding their footprint to Kansas City, southern Illinois, and even Indianapolis.  And if that wasn’t enough, just this week they announced that they purchased a small brewery in co-owner and brewmaster Florian Kuplent’s homeland of Bavaria.

It’s eye-popping to see how much they’ve grown.  But they’re still a local brewery at heart.  To celebrate this enormous success UCBC is throwing their 4th annual Wolpertinger festival next Sunday, January 25th from 1-5PM at their Grove Brewery and Bierhall.

$35 (or $40 day of) will get you a chance to sample beers from over 30 breweries including special guest Sun King Brewing out of Indianapolis. Come out and celebrate all of UCBC’s success with a great festival!

Oh and if you’re wondering what a wolpertinger is, other than being a fantastic beer festival, UCBC has provided this colorful description here:

For you newbies (or those that might need a refresher) … a wolpertinger is a small (or large depending on your perspective), primarily nocturnal mammal that inhabits the alpine forests of Bavaria. He’s quite rare, but we annually work with our hop growers in Hallertau to ‘import’ one of the little fellas for the special occasion. Mostly nocturnal, our “Wolpie” makes his grand appearance at the back end of the festival, which also coincides with our very limited release of his namesake UCBC beer.  Wolpie will also be honoring what he recognizes as the “best-costumed Wolpertingers” who will be rewarded!

canvitational-eventlogoSo yeah, had a bit of mishap yesterday which made me totally forget to pick a winner of two tickets to the CANvitational Beer Festival in Indianapolis taking place this Saturday, September 28th.

So, I’m happy to announce that the winner of these tickets is Aaron Armstrong. Congrats to Aaron (hopefully he’s ready for an awesome time in Indianapolis) and thanks again Sun King and Hoosier Beer Geek for the tickets.

Make sure to bring us back some photos, Aaron!

canvitational-eventlogoI love canned beer. I’ve espoused on the virtues of canned beer many, many times so I don’t feel like I need to do so again here.  I also love traveling, especially for beer events.  If you’re like me, then you may be interested in attending the first ever CANvitational Beer Festival in Indianapolis next Saturday, September 28th.

According to the nice press release that was sent along to me, here is some information on the event: “The Sun King CANvitational will bring more than 30 craft breweries representing 16 states to Georgia Street and Pan Am Plaza from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets, available online at www.canvitational.com, are $50 for general admission and $75 for early entry.”

The nice people at Hoosier Beer Geek have given me two tickets to give away for this awesome event (which I wish I could attend!) If you’d like to win please send an email to contest@stlhops.com with the subject of CANvitational , I’ll randomly pick two winners on Monday, September 23rd at 9AM. A couple of quick notes:

  • If you’ve won something from STL Hops in the past 6 months, please be cool and let someone else enter.
  • If you can’t attend, please don’t enter.
  • You must be 21 or older to enter.
  • No multiple entries.

Thanks again to Sun King and Hoosier Beer Geek for the tickets. Maybe I’ll get to go next year!
