lupulin-2016-altIt’s that time of the year again, time to celebrate our love of the hop. (Granted many of us celebrate our love of the hop every day.) But how can we celebrate this wonderful flower?

How about a beer carnival? On Saturday April 2nd, from 2PM-6PM 4 Hands Brewing Company will host their fifth annual beer festival with friends. The Lupulin Carnival is a celebration of the hop and will also be the release of the War Hammer Imperial IPA.

As always, the festival will be a carnival theme including area acts performing death-defying feats, including fire breathers, fortune tellers and acrobatics. There will be carnival games as well with 100% of that profit going to St. Louis Winter Outreach.

The Ferris wheel will also be returning!

Tickets will be $50 and will include a hop forward selection from participating local breweries, tasting glass, and access to all of the carnival activities. Here’s a current look at the participating breweries:

lupulinOnce again, there were some really good entries this year. (I’ll list some of my favorites below.) The use of Fuggle was once again a hit and people played off of that quite a bit. We also had a lot of people staying old school and using noble hop names.

But, I’m happy to announce the winner is Katie Culp with her entry for a carnival ride, “The Magnum Cluster Buster”. Sounds fun. Katie has won two tickets to the 4 Hands Brewing Lupulin Carnival this Saturday. I’m happy to announce that tickets for this event have sold out (or sad if you missed out!)

If you didn’t win, I’ve definitely have some cool contests lurking around the corner. I once again want to thank everyone from 4 Hands for providing the tickets to this event.  Here are some of my favorite entries that almost made the cut:

  • Ericstl6’s favorite ride: The Square Coaster
  • The Yakima ClusterTruck
  • Brettanomyces the Bearded Lady!
  • Walter Heisen”Greenburg” the Clown.
  • The Hallertau Hell Ride!
  • Fuggle the Muggle (the totally unmagical clown)
  • Hallertau the Noble Clown
  • Mechanical Bullion
  • Millennium Fal-clown
  • Bearded Bracteole the Clown
  • The Bitter Bunghole
  • Apoc-calypso the Dancing Zombie Clown

lupulinIf you love beer and can stand to be around clowns (and I don’t mean the clowns that normally attend beer festivals) then maybe you’d love to win some tickets to the 4 Hands Brewing Lupulin Carnival. Thanks to the fine folks at 4 Hands, I have two tickets to give away for this event.

We’re going to once again pick the most creative hop-based clown name or hop-based carnival ride. For example: Citra the Clown or the Calypso Cyclone. Only, don’t use those, because they suck.

Most creative name (based on what I think is awesome) wins two tickets to this Saturday’s festival. Send an email to contest@stlhops.com with the subject of Lupulin Carnival and include your Clown/Carnival Ride name in the body of the message. I’ll pick the best winner on Thursday, March 26th at 9AM. Standard contest rules apply:

  • If you’ve won something from STL Hops in the past 6 months, please be cool and let someone else enter.
  • If you can’t attend, please don’t enter.
  • You must be 21 or older to enter.
  • No multiple entries.

Good luck and don’t let me down.

Beer! Fun! Hops! Cotton Candy !Clowns!  OK, the 4 Hands 2013 Lupulin Carnival featured all of those things except those scary-ass clowns.  If you were looking to get your palate rocked, this was certainly the festival for you.  Not only did we get a chance to try some of the hoppy creations from our local breweries, but it was fun having some out of state breweries pouring some beers as well.

Here are a few photos if you weren’t able to attend.
