So, I’m pleased to announce that the winner for the two tickets to tonight’s Boulevard Smokestack Dinner at Luciano’s is Terra Cappel! Congrats to Terra and thank you everyone for entering. Once again, if you didn’t win, don’t be too upset, I’m going to have a few more things to give away in the next few weeks.

I want to thank Laura Dale from Boulevard Brewery and Marc Del Pietro Luciano’s from for providing the tickets to this event.

The dinner will be taking place on Sunday, August 29th at 4PM. Tickets, which must be purchased in advance, will be $40 each, not including gratuity. You can make reservations by calling 618-655-1471. Here’s a look at the dinner:

ciceros.jpg Cicero’s Italian Restaurant continues their fall Beer School semester this Wednesday from 5:30-6:30PM. Cicero’s Beer School provides background about beers and beer styles usually directly from people directly in the beer industry.

It’s a perfect opportunity to learn more about a style you’re unfamiliar with or to just brush up on a style you haven’t enjoyed in a while.

This week’s school is being taught by Laura Dale from Boulevard Brewing. Laura will be on hand to discuss and sample their Pilsner, Double Wide IPA, Tank 7 and Saison Bret. Go out and take advantage of one of the few places where you can drink and learn!

If you can’t make it out to the Beer School, you can check out all of the classes via podcast at Cicerosbeerschool.com.

When I contacted Boulevard Brewing rep Laura Dale to find out if Boulevard’s newest year-round beer Single Wide IPA came in a 1/6bbl, I was shocked to have her graciously offer one up for the STL Hops Trip to the Rotten Apple (a few tickets still available.)

As cool as that was for Laura to offer it up, what I got today is even cooler.  Below is a hand written letter from Boulevard Brewmaster, Steven Pauwels given us some great information about the beer and wishing us a good trip.  Take a look:

It is a bit difficult to read, so I’ll translate it here:

To Mike Sweeney and STL Hops Members.

I hope you will enjoy this Single Wide IPA keg that Laura has here for you.

We brew this beer in a Boulevard tradition to make balanced, enjoyable beers.  This IPA is no exception and maybe to out fault made it in to a very sessionable beer.  We tried to balance the caramel slightly sweet malt notes with the floral and fruit hops character.  For a 59 IBU beer it should not take the skin off of your tongue, but rather balance between sweet and bitterness.  We used caramel and Munich malts for body and lots of Centennial and Pallisade in dry hopping for the hoppy nose.

I hope you will enjoy this Single Wide IPA and have a safe and fun trip!
