MadHander-20140803-16482270

You’ve now had a few days to fully recover from the spectacle that was St. Louis Craft Beer Week. Here’s the thing though in case you haven’t been paying attention. Kick ass events never stop around here, and our friends at Handlebar have one for you this week.

Wednesday, August 6th starting at 4PM, Handlebar presents “MadHander-The Firkin Off.” Representatives from New Holland Brewing and Left Hand Brewing will have a battle to the finish featuring firkins of limited release beers. The first firkin to sell out will be declared the winner and the losing beer rep will be “punished” by the winning rep that night in the bar.

In one corner, New Holland Brewing National Beer Director Clay “Dirt” Cooper will be tapping a firkin of Golden Flash, their pub only Traditional English Pale. Across the ring, Left Hand Brewing’s Missouri representative Ryan Call will tap Peppermint Patty.

What’s Peppermint Patty you ask? How about their Milk Stout with mint. The game is to see who can kick their firkin first. The first 40 people get to keep the glass from the brewery of their choice. There can only be one winner in a firkin off.

And the loser will pay. Who wins, who loses, and what will the punishment be? There are rumors of head shaving, dresses, and all sorts of good stuff. I’d recommend you stop on into Handlebar and check it out. It’s sure to be a great time.

Spooky times ahead tomorrow when HandleBar hosts a Zombie vs Monkey Party featuring Tallgrass Zombie Monkie. In fact there is a whole host of activities going on tomorrow at Handlebar for your Halloween enjoyment.

Beginning at 7PM there will be a Zombie Bike Crawl, for you brainy types Tenacious Trivia begins at 8PM and the Zombie vs Monkie Dance Party begins at 10PM with DJ Funk Inc.

For those of you who want to show off your favorite Zombie or Monkie costumes, there will be a costume contest at 12AM giving out prizes for the best Zombie, best Monkie, and best in show. There will also be cans of Zombie Monkie available all night for $3.50 (all other Tallgrass beers will be $4.)

If you’re looking for a craft beer Halloween experience, head out to Handlebar tomorrow night.

The HandleBar, is ready to start your Christmas vacation off right as they’ll be holding their second “Beer Christmas” starting at 7PM on Thursday, December 20th. To put some jingle in your stocking the fine folks at Six Row Brewing Company will be bringing a very special cask of Cookies and Cream Porter that’s a variation of the Six Row Vanilla Porter.

Not only will there be a special cask, but each pint you purchase will earn you a raffle ticket for possibly winning some “gifts” wrapped under the tree. After the cask blows, all of the taps turn back to happy hour pricing!

If you’re looking to avoid the Christmas ham, the Handlebar kitchen will still be serving up some awesome grub.  This sounds like a great excuse to get out of the house before you’re surrounded by family in that ugly Christmas sweater.

For the uninitiated, Handlebar in the Grove hosts Tenacious Trivia every Thursday evening. It’s a fun, but cutthroat affair. People are in it to win it, they’re not messing around.

After the trivia hijinks have ended, DJ Black Guy is usually keeping the party going by spinning some tunes (do young people still say this?) In a wonderful job of portmanteau, Isaac Hancock of Six Row Brewing decided to put on a cask of Six Row Black IPA and had dubbed this evening: DJ BlackGuyPA.

Here’s the description straight from Six Row’s website:

Six Row Black IPA is our version of the IPA style made famous by Pacific Northwest brewers. It is ebony colored, with a beige head, a citrusy, resinous hop character, and a light, toasty background. Six Row Black IPA is on the top-end of the style spectrum at 7.0% ABV. It is 65 IBU from US sourced hops and is dry-hopped with Summit hops, as chosen by our customers during the 2011 St. Louis Craft Beer Week festivities. This is the perfect brew for easing out of summer and into the cool days of autumn.

The cask gets tapped tonight (Thursday, September 20th) at 7PM, trivia begins at 8PM, and DJ Black Guy starts jamming at 10PM. Sounds like a perfect world of mash up tonight at Handlebar.

While our local brewers make some mighty fine beer, they’re also pretty interesting people. Some are funny, some tell a mighty fine story, and some are downright weird (this person knows who he is.) More than anything, they love talking about beer.

If you’re looking for an opportunity to rub shoulders with some of the area’s beer artists then you need to head out to the Brewers Summit at HandleBar this Saturday, August 4th beginning at 1PM.

Last year’s event was an excellent addition to the St. Louis Craft Beer Week and I’m sure this year will be no different. Tickets are $20 and will give you an opportunity to listen to brewers spin yarns about brewing all while sampling some of their wares. You’ll also get a free pint right before the question and answer portion of the event. Tickets are available at Brown Paper Tickets.

The breweries scheduled to attend this year are:

Charleville
2nd Shift
Six Row
Schlafly
4 Hands
Urban Chestnut
Morgan Street
Cathedral Square
The Civil Life

Come on out and meet some of these cool people and enjoy some great beer.

After the often prolonged effort it takes to open a brewery, I’m sure every day you’re finally open feels like a celebration. But 4 Hands Brewing Company is taking the celebration one step further by having a half-birthday party this Saturday, June 23rd at Handlebar.

Beginning at 12PM, 4 Hands will celebrate 6 months of being open by taking over all 6 taps at Handlebar. 4 Hands will be serving up some of the favorites:

  • Single Speed Session
  • Divided Sky IPA
  • Cast Iron Oatmeal Brown
  • Reprise Centennial Red
  • Prunus Sour Cherry Saison
  • Prussia Berliner Weiss

Not only will there be great beer, but there will also be some birthday presents from Handlebar and 4 Hands that will be given away. There will also be music provided by DJ Black Guy and Treasure Ceremony giving you a “booty shakin’ soundtrack.”

So, head out to Handlebar this Saturday and celebrate having 4 Hands in our town for the last 6 months.

The HandleBar, is ready to start your Christmas vacation off right as they’ll be holding their second “Beer Christmas” starting at 7PM on Thursday, December 22nd. To put some jingle in your stocking the fine folks at Six Row Brewing Company will be bringing a very special cask of Snickerdoodle Porter that’s a cinnamon stick spiced variation of the Six Row Vanilla Porter.
