hotdShmaltz Brewing Proprietor Jeremy Cowan is coming to town and bringing a good time with him. This Friday, April 10th, Jeremy will be visiting Hair of the Dog on Washington Avenue and will be hosting a very special tap takeover.

Starting at 5PM you’ll have your chance to be apart of not only the launch of Funky Jewbelation ’15 but also the launch of the all-new She’Brew Triple IPA. This year’s Jewbelation is a blend of six different ales and lagers aged in bourbon and rye whiskey barrels.

The recipe includes Jewbelation Reborn (aged 16 months), Messiah Nut Brown Ale (aged 8 months), Bittersweet Lenny’s R.I.P.A. (aged 6 months), Winter Lager 2013 (aged 15 months), Rejewvenator 2014 (aged 11 months), and Death of a Contract Brewer (aged 16 months).

She’Brew is a very special beer that was designed and brewed “by the women and female friends (and a few dudes too) of Shmaltz Brewing.” It’s an 11% triple IPA featuring Calypso, Citra, Crystal and Amarillo hops. A portion of proceeds from She’Brew sales will benefit the Pink Boots Society scholarship fund, a global non-profit that aims to advance women in the beer business.

Both of these beers and Jeremy Cowan’s smiling face will be at Hair of the Dog this Friday at 5PM, don’t miss out.

hotdA lot of my worst mornings began with a fantastic evening. I’m starting to thing that is how Avery Brewing Company got the idea for their Heaven and Hell series. If not enjoyed responsibly, these monster beers are sure to provide you with both ends of the spectrum.

If you want to find out for yourself, be sure to head out to Hair of the Dog this Thursday, March 19th as they’ll be featuring a killer line-up of beers from Avery. Beginning at 7PM you’ll have your chance to enjoy The Beast, Mephistopheles, and Lilikoi Kepolo. I’ve been told there will be a few specialties from Avery on hand as well.

Head out to Hair of the Dog on Thursday to enjoy a trip to both heaven and hell.

hotdHair of the Dog has always been a hidden little gem on Washington Ave for the craft beer drinker. Longtime fans of HotD know that they have one of the best selections of sour beer in the area.

But what you may not know is that they upped their game. In the past few months, they’ve quietly bumped their tap count to 43 total taps. This ever-rotating selections of draught beer is carefully selected by Dom Bruening and he’s always trying to stay on top of what’s new and fun.

I know a few people avoided HotD in the past due to them allowing smoking, but I’m also happy to announce that they’re now smoke-free.  So not only can you enjoy 43 taps and delicious sour beer, but also enjoy it without smoke.  If you haven’t been to Hair of the Dog in a while, maybe it’s time to check them out again.

Oh, and it turns out they’re tapping a keg of Goose Island Bourbon County Stout today, so now you have an excuse to visit.

hotdATTENTION: THIS IS NOT ABOUT BEER. IF YOU’RE ONLY INTERESTED IN BEER, IGNORE THIS POST.

But, if you’re the kind of person who likes some cider, then this post is for you. Next Wednesday, April 14th, Hair of the Dog will be getting a little fruity, specifically that fruit will be apples.

From 5PM to close, this Washington Ave landmark will give you a line-up of ciders to make your mouth water. Here’s what they’re serving up:

Draft

  • Woodchuck Pink
  • Woodchuck Dry Hopped
  • Woodchuck Summer
  • Urban Chestnut Bushelhead

Bottle

  • Magner Pear
  • Strong Bow
  • Woodchuck Amber
  • Angry Orchard The Muse
  • Crispin

Listen to your doctor and have your apple out of a bottle next Wednesday.

Sometimes you need some “you” time.  As awesome as it is to hang out with family, sometimes it can be a bit much. If you’re looking for something to do come Friday evening, check out Hair of the Dog as they’ll be throwing a Black Friday celebration featuring some really black beers.  Here’s a list:

  • Goose Island Bourbon County Stout
  • Founder Breakfast
  • Great Divide Yeti
  • Arcadia Black IPA
  • Schlafly Coffee
  • Lips of Faith Chocolate Coffee Imperial Stout
  • Founders Backwoods Bastard
  • 4 Hands Smoked Pigasus
  • Magic Hat Heart of Darkness
  • New Belgium Snow Day

This is a quite the line-up of black beers. Head on out to Hair of the Dog beginning at 5PM on Friday to really make the most of your Black Friday.

This may be it.  This may be your last chance to try the “original” American IPA on cask from Schlafly.

This Thursday, April 1st, starting at 6:30PM, a representative from the St. Louis Brewery will be tapping a cask of the American IPA and will be serving it at the Hair of the Dog Pub on Washington.

This beer will be available until they run out or the pub closes.  My guess is that the won’t have to worry about it not running out.
