flyingsaucerlogoIt’s not every day that you get a renowned beer author visiting your town, it’s even less often that you get to have him guide you through an entire beer dinner.  Flying Saucer achieved both items and have put together a beer dinner featuring Stephen Beaumont, co-author of The World Atlas of Beer and two editions of The Pocket Beer Guide.

If that wasn’t enough of draw for you, Stephen is working with Chris Vomund of Herbie’s Vintage ’72 to create four courses to be paired with four local beers. You’ll be able to enjoy 4 Hands Prelude, Urban Chestnut Hallertau Pils, Civil Life Big American Stout, and the Modern Brewery Green Goliath all paired with the unique cuisine of Chef Chris.

The dinner is taking place on Wednesday, June 17th at 6:30PM. The cost is $70 per person (or $65 for UFO Members) and includes the beer and food for the event, as well as the QA session with Stephen Beaumont. You can make reservations by calling (314) 932-1456.

Odell_Brewing_Company_logoWe all have our own beer-related pet peeves.  For those that know me closely, they know that my A #1 pet peeve is how people continually screw up Odell Brewing Company. O’dell, O’Dells, etc. The owner’s name is Doug Odell.  No apostrophe.

Whew, I feel better.

Anyway, I don’t think people realize how lucky we are to have Odell Brewing. Personally, they’re one of my favorite breweries and they’re currently only available in 11 states.

flyingsaucerlogoTo celebrate their second anniversary in St. Louis, Flying Saucer is pulling out all of the stops. Not only will they have birthday cake and live music from 1-4PM, they’ll also be putting on some crazy delicious beers.

Beginning at 1PM, every hour on the hour Flying Saucer will be randomly tapping the following beers:

  • Tilquin Gueuze
  • Left Hand Oak Aged Wake Up Dead
  • Firestone Walker Bretta Weisse
  • 4 Hands Volume 1 (2013)
  • Goose Island Bourbon County Stout (2014)

They will also be selling a limited selection of bottles every hour. Because of the limited amount of bottles available, they will be doing a lottery for the bottles. When you arrive, you’ll get a ticket for the bottles you want to try. If they draw your ticket, you’ll have a chance to purchase and enjoy your special bottle of beer. flyingsaucerlogoIf you like dark and delicious beers, Flying Saucer will be pouring Deschutes Brewery Black Butte XXVI and Goose Island 2013 Bourbon County Stout beginning at 12PM tomorrow, Saturday, September 27th.

I don’t really have much more to add other than these beers are awesome and you should totally visit the Flying Saucer and drink them.

It’s the weekend, you should live a little!

theog2014 might go down as the year that the women who brew, sell, and drink craft beer in St. Louis made their voices heard. We’ve seen Girls Pint Out, Femme Ferment, and the Pink Boot Society all plant roots in St. Louis, but there is always room for more passion and more voices, especially when it comes to showing how much fervor and fire St. Louis women have about craft beer.

The OG is a new group of women interested in the continued education and involvement of women in craft beer. To kick off this group, the OG has paired with Flying Saucer to not only debut a beer brewed by the group, but also do some good as well.

Part of the OG’s mission is to not only be involved with the craft beer community, but also be a positive influence on those around them. As I mentioned earlier, the group brewed a strawberry saison they’ve named “Fraise Cassee”, the Flying Saucer will be pouring this beer beginning at 5PM on September 26th.

As part of being a good community partner, all proceeds of the event will be donated to Operation Food Search. Glasses of Fraise Casse will be available for purchase for a suggested donation.  There will also be raffle tickets available as well with chances to win gift certificates, bottles of Fraise Cassee, and more.

flyingsaucerlogoThere were plenty of people nervous when Flying Saucer came into town last year. They were worried about allocations, they were worried about loss of special events, they were worried about a loss of business.

But competition is good.  Instead what we saw was everyone bringing their A-game.  People stepping up and doing cooler stuff to try and out-do each other.  Who wins?  Everyone. Our beer scene is better because of Flying Saucer.

One of the coolest aspects of the Saucer is its proximity to Busch Stadium. Thanks to the crush of fans around the stadium, more people are being introduced to craft beer than ever.  This is a very good thing.

All of this is exposition is to say that believe it or not, Flying Saucer St. Louis is turning one-year-old. And to celebrate their first year in St. Louis they’re throwing a big party this Sunday, March 16th beginning at 12PM.

How better to celebrate than hourly releases of some rare beers.  Here’s the line-up:
