mbsl_127226_threekings_firestonetaptakeover_11x17_r2I know I’ve told this story before, but why not tell it again:

I don’t typically fanboy out when meeting brewers because, they’re just that– brewers. They’re super cool people (for the most part) but they’re still dudes that brew beer.

Except this one time.

Way back in 2010 I got a chance to visit the Craft Brewers Conference in Chicago. I had a chance to visit this party put on by Lauren Salazar from New Belgium and that’s when my fanboy experience happened. Lauren introduced me to Matt Brynildson, brewmaster at Firestone Walker Brewing Company.

At the time I was obsessed with Union Jack (and frankly, I still am, that beer is off the chain) and I believe the first thing I said to Matt was, “HOLY SHIT, YOU’RE MATT BRYNILDSON!”  I’ve never done this before when meeting a brewer and haven’t done it since.

What does this story have to do with anything?  Well, other than making me look like an idiot, it’s your chance to geek out over some Firestone Walker beers this Saturday, July 8th starting at 3PM at Three Kings Public House in the Loop.

FW rep John Kellerman will be on hand with some super cool beers including XX Anniversary, Bravo, Parabola, Stickee Monkee and featuring for the first time in Missouri: Sloambic and PGW. So head out to Three Kings this Saturday and do some geeking out of your own.

MBSL_120461_Ciceros_FirestoneWalkerPatience and will-power.  If you plan on cellaring beer, you need to have both of these items in spades. It’s difficult to see that beer just sitting there and not want to drink it.

Luckily for you, Firestone Walker and Cicero’s have done the hard work for you. This Saturday, September 10th, is Vintage Series Night at Cicero’s.

Starting at 6pm, you’ll be able to enjoy the following beers:

Draft

  • Sucuba 2016
  • Helldorado 2015
  • Stickee Monkee 2016
  • Velvet Merkin 2015

Bottles

  • Stickee Monkee 2015
  • Helldorado 2015
  • Parabola 2016
  • XIX Nineteenth Anniversary Ale

There will also be a raffle for Firestone schwag beginning at 8pm. Don’t try and cellar this stuff yourself, let the pros handle it for you at Cicero’s.

cellarbration IISome of us nerdy people like to hold on to beers. We keep them all nice and cozy in our little cellars waiting for that perfect opportunity to crack them open.

But sometimes the perfect opportunity is to just head to your cellar and pop something open for your own enjoyment. Well, Llywelyn’s Pub agrees with that idea and wants to throw a little party to pop open some bottles from their cellar.

That Saturday, March 5th, starting at 9:30AM, Llywelyn’s in Webster is throwing a Cellarbration. They’re going to be busting out some cool bottles from their cellar for you to purchase and enjoy. (And if you haven’t had a chance to try their new brunch, you should, it’s pretty delicious.)

Bottles will include Goose Island BCS variants, Firestone Walker variants, some of the Goose Sour Sisters, and some other rare goodies.  The 4 Hands Apple Brandy Woodsman will be on draft along with the Perennial Jameson Whiskey collab.

So, no need to bust into your cellar when Llywelyn’s will do it for you.

MBSL_117556_ITap_Firestone_R1Sad that you missed out on Firestone Walker Invitational Beer Festival? I can’t say I blame you, it’s one of the best beer festivals I’ve been to and one of the reasons is to try some of the delicious Barrelworks Wild Ales.

Well, you may not be able to go out to Paso Robles, but the International Tap House and Firestone Walker are bringing a little of the FWIBF to you.  This Sunday, February 21st, starting at 2PM iTAP CWE will be tapping four very special funky beers for you to sip on.

The line-up includes:

  • 2015 Sour Opal
  • 2015 Agrestic
  • 2015 and 2016 Bretta Weisse

And funky beer needs funky music, so iTAP’s on Chuck Parson will be playing some funktastic jams to keep you in the mood.

This Tap Tour features some of your old favorites like Easy Jack, DBA, and Union Jack and also some fun choices like Nitro Merlin Milk Stout, 19th Anniversary, and Stickee Monkee. John Kellerman from Firestone will be on hand with a little bit of swag to giveaway as well.

Geek out over some Firestone Walker tomorrow night at Three Kings.

It’s time to welcome the newest brewery to the St. Louis area. Ladies and gentlemen let’s give it up to Firestone Walker Brewing Company! To celebrate the arrival of this west coast behemoth, Major Brands has worked to put on a number of events around the area. Here’s a list:

  • Monday 3/14 – Wine & Cheese Place, Clayton – tasting 5pm – 7pm
  • Monday 3/14 – The Bridge promo scheduled, 7PM
  • Tuesday 3/15 – Lukas Liquor tasting scheduled 4pm – 6pm
  • Tuesday 3/15 – iTap Chesterfield promo scheduled 5pm – 7pm
  • Tuesday 3/15 – iTap Soulard promo scheduled 8pm – 11pm
  • Wednesday 3/16 – Cicero’s Beer School, 5:30pm – 7pm

Each of these events should provide an excellent chance to try a number of different Firestone Walker beers along with beers from the Nectar Ales line.  Here’s a list of beers that have made their way into Major Brands warehouse:

  • Anniversary #14
  • Abacus
  • Double Jack Imperial IPA (draught and bottles)
  • Walker Reserve Porter
  • Nectar Hemp (draught and bottles)
  • Nectar IPA (draught and bottles)

I know there are a few things missing on this list, but we should hopefully be seeing them in St. Louis soon. Can’t wait to see some of these beers around town.

@MurdarioStomp: firestone walker, deschutes, and stone – all coming to MO (1 now confirmed to be here soon). the west coast arrives in MO. #tearsinmyeyes

That preceding tweet came from long time STL Hops member scottyp.  I think Scotty does a great job of summing up the excitement and exhilaration some  of us have for getting in additional breweries from the west coast which will only increase our already impressive line-up.

Well, according to Firestone Walker Brewing Company‘s Export Director John Bryan, the label approval (something all liquor must go through in the state of Missouri) has been approved and we should be seeing Firestone Walker beers here soon.

How soon? Well, according to Brian Dix from Major Brands, the soon to be distributor of Firestone Walker, they’ve been told to get their orders ready which means we could see news beers within the next few weeks.  But no date has been set.

What beers will we be getting? Here’s a recap:

  • Nectar IPA (part of their Nectar Ales line, year-round)
  • Red Nectar part of their Nectar Ales line, year-round)
  • Nectar Hemp Ale Nectar Ales line, year-round)
  • Double Jack (22oz year-round)
  • Walker’s Reserve (22oz year-round)
  • Abacus (seasonal)
  • Parabola (seasonal)
  • Anniversary 14 (seasonal)

A few notes about these beers. I’ve been told we’ll be seeing not only 12oz and 22oz bottles (where applicable) but also draught on certain beer as well. I’ve been told we should also hopefully expect to see some Anniversary 14 when the first order arrives.

I’ll make sure to get the information out when these new beers arrive.  Stay tuned.
