Urban Chestnut Brewing Company has had a crazy five years since they opened their doors in 2011. Has any other local brewery has quite the explosion that UCBC has had?

Since their opening we’ve seen them grow from their beautiful space in midtown to an enormous and gorgeous in the Grove. We’ve seen their tap handles pop up all over town and now bottled beer hit the shelves.

We’ve seen them grow from selling beer just in the St. Louis area to expanding their footprint to Kansas City, southern Illinois, and even Indianapolis.  And if that wasn’t enough, they even expanded to Europe when they purchased a small brewery in co-owner and brewmaster Florian Kuplent’s homeland of Bavaria.

It’s eye-popping to see how much they’ve grown.  But they’re still a local brewery at heart.  To celebrate this enormous success UCBC is throwing their 5th annual Wolpertinger festival on Sunday, January 24th from 1-5PM at their Grove Brewery and Bierhall.

$35 (or $40 day of) will get you a chance to sample beers from over 30 breweries including special guest Deschutes Brewery out of Bend, Oregon. Come out and celebrate all of UCBC’s success with a great festival!

Oh and if you’re wondering what a wolpertinger is, other than being a fantastic beer festival, UCBC has provided this colorful description here:

For you newbies (or those that might need a refresher) … a wolpertinger is a small (or large depending on your perspective), primarily nocturnal mammal that inhabits the alpine forests of Bavaria. He’s quite rare, but we annually work with our hop growers in Hallertau to ‘import’ one of the little fellas for the special occasion. Mostly nocturnal, our “Wolpie” makes his grand appearance at the back end of the festival, which also coincides with our very limited release of his namesake UCBC beer.  Wolpie will also be honoring what he recognizes as the “best-costumed Wolpertingers” who will be rewarded!

logo-bridge-wpI hope you have your drinking shoes on because as the weather is warming up, we’re seeing more and more events going on around town. The Bridge Tap House has not just one, but two killer events they’re putting on in the next two weeks.

Next Monday, April 27th, Bridge will be featuring a Deschutes Brewery tap takeover and hosting Deschutes master blender Anthony Stone. Starting at 5PM, Bridge will be featuring  Mirror Mirror 2014, Mirror Pond, Black Butte XXV, Obsidian Nitro Stout and Fresh Squeezed IPA.

Then on Thursday, May 7th, Bridge will be hosting a Founders Brewing tap takeover featuring the one, the only KBS.  The best part about this tap takeover is that it’s kind of a match off against big sister, little sister.  Bridge will be doing side-by-side pourings of Breakfast Stout/KBS, Rubeaus/Blushing Monk, Dirty Bastard/Backwoods Bastard (2014) and Old Curmudgeon.

itap-teku2There are some members of the STL Hops community that take their glassware very seriously. No judgment here, not only can the right glassware enhance the enjoyment of the beer you’re drinking, but they can also look cool as well.

The Teku glassware definitely hits both points. What if you could not only get yourself a fantastic glass, but enjoy some rare Deschutes beers in it as well?

Well, you’re in luck because this Wednesday, February 25th beginning at 6PM you’ll have your chance to take home a Teku glass and enjoy a crazy line-up of beers from Deschutes Brewery.

The International Tap House in Soulard will be hosting a Teku Keep The Glass night featuring 2014 Abyss, Mirror Mirror, Not the Stoic, and Zarabanda.  There is a limited number of glassware available, so don’t be late for this one.

You could probably tell by looking at me, but I’m not what you would call “the outdoorsy type.” Camping usually means heat, bugs, and other smelly campers. It’s not exactly what I’d call relaxing, but to each their own.

But I’ve been told that Bend, Oregon, home of Deschutes Brewery, is like a woodsman’s paradise. Plenty of mountains to climb, trails to hike, and rivers to canoe. While the Deschutes Base Camp for Beer Fanatics experience offers none of the things I just listed, it does offer plenty of beer (and that’s something I can get on board with.)

With over seven days of events, you’re sure to find something that you’ll love. Here’s Deschutes Missouri Market Manager Karen King to run down all of the events for you:
