codfestlogo2 (1)This seems to sneak up on me every year, but it looks like  Schlafly‘s annual Cod and Cask Festival takes place this Friday February 7th (5PM to Midnight) and Saturday, February 8th (11AM to Midnight). Schlafly brings in the freshest cod to serve up multiple ways!

If that wasn’t enough, what goes better with Fish and Chips but cask-conditioned ale? These beers are carbonated in the cask and hand pumped up to the bar at “cellar temperature” to provide the most authentic experience this side of the pond.

Here’s the line-up of just some of casks that we can be expecting over the weekend:

  • AIPA
  • Scotch Ale
  • APA
  • Coffee Stout
  • English IPA
  • American Brown
  • Session IPA
  • Vanilla Coffee Stout
  • Double IPA

Don’t miss out on the plokkfiskur, it’s absolutely delicious.

In addition to this line-up of fantastic Schlafly cask ale, here’s a few guest casks that will be opened this Saturday, starting at 3PM, as well:

  • Civil Life
  • Kirkwood Station
  • Perennial Artisan Ales
  • Urban Chestnut

Those fine folks in Britain have known for a long time that cask beer and cod go together like fish and chips. There is something so innately enjoyable about the soft, smooth cask beer and the light and flaky cod that makes the Schlafly Cod and Cask festival one of my favorite events.

The inclusion of guest beers from brewers around St. Louis was just icing on an already decadent cake. For those of you that couldn’t attend, here are a few photos for you:

Schlafly brewers Brennan Greene and Stephen Hale assure me that they’re doing their best this year to make sure cask beer is available all weekend, but just to be certain I would show up as early as you can on Friday to make sure you get to enjoy the best of both worlds.

Here’s the line-up of just some of casks that we can be expecting over the weekend:

  • English IPA
  • Dry-Hopped APA
  • Oatmeal Stout
  • New Zealand IPA
  • Vanilla Milk Stout
  • Coffee Stout
  • Scotch Ale
  • Smoked Porter
  • Vanilla Smoked Porter

In addition to this line-up of fantastic Schlafly cask ale, here’s a few guest casks that will be opened this Saturday, starting at 4PM, as well:

The Civil Life Brewing Company:
American Brown Ale – 4.8% ABV 36 IBU

Perennial Artisan Ales:
IPA #1 – 7.7% ABV 83 IBU
A strong American take on the classic style, this dry IPA, bursting with big mango and peach aromas, has an assertive citrus rind bitterness and slightly fruity flavors, and is balanced with a bread-crust-like malt backbone.

Urban Chestnut Brewing Company:
Old Tjikko – 6.3% ABV 37 IBU
This strong spruce beer is an aggressively ‘pined’, higher ABV, palate smacker that gets its name from the nearly 10,000 year old Norway Spruce living in the climes of Sweden. Like its namesake this beer is dark, complex and fantastically fragrant.

codfestlogo2.jpgI’m pleased to announce that the winner for the two tickets to the Schlafly Cod and Cask VIP Dinner is Chuck Schneebeli! Congrats to Chuck and thanks everyone for entering. If you didn’t win, don’t be too upset, once again I have some cool stuff to give away soon.

I once again want to thank everyone from Schlafly for donating the two tickets to this VIP event. Everyone make sure to head out to the Cod and Cask Festival this weekend and try the plokkfiskur. It’s awesome.

codfestlogo2.jpgI don’t know if you know or not, but Schlafly holds a VIP party the night before the Cod and Cask Festival. It gives Schlafly a chance to preview their Cod and Cask festival before the festivities this weekend. Would you like to attend such a special event? Well, here’s your chance.

The fine folks at Schlafly have given me two passes to the Schlafly Cod & Cask VIP Party, which is held on Thursday, February 10th. If you’re interested in attending just email contest@stlhops.com with Cod & Cask as the subject.

I’ll randomly pick one winner on Thursday, February 10th at 9AM.  A couple of quick notes:

  • If you’ve won something from STL Hops in the past 6 months, please be cool and let someone else enter.
  • If you can’t attend, please don’t enter.
  • You must be 21 or older to enter.
  • No multiple entries.

If you don’t win this one, don’t worry I will be holding more contests like this in the future, so you’ll have another chance then. Good luck!
