Plus, all day, we’re going to have 2 beers on draft that are 100% free. We’re limiting this to 1 of each per person so it can spread way out but it’s free ALL FREAKIN DAY!

Whole Foods Galleria

pizzeoliYou may have heard a few things about Soulard’s newest pizza joint, Pizzeoli.  You may have read some of the stellar reviews or heard people raving about it.  But the thing you may have heard most is… it’s vegetarian.

Gasp! Oh, whatever will a meat eater do?  I’ll tell you what you’ll do, you’ll visit Pizzeoli and enjoy one of the finest Neapolitan-style pizzas in our region. I promise, you won’t miss the meat. You know who also produces world-class examples of classic styles? The Civil Life Brewing Company.

Worlds collide tomorrow, Tuesday, April 7th, providing you the opportunity to enjoy to examples of old school techniques when Pizzeoli hosts Civil Life for a tap takeover. Running all day long, Pizzeoli will be featuring two of Civil Life’s newest creations, the Wee Bit Heavy and the Angel and the Sword.

What’s the Angel and the Sword you ask? I’ll let Jake Hafner fill you in:

Angel and The Sword seems like an odd name for a peace offering, but hear us out. Sometimes you just have to blend cultures. Toledo, Spain is an UNESCO World Heritage Site called “the city of three cultures” for the continuous coexistence of Jews, Christians, and Muslims since ancient times. They haven’t always gotten along, at times horrendously so, but they do their best. Iron sharpens iron, as their good books say.

An area famed for sword production, our favourite monument remains Juan de Ávalos’ “statue of peace” outside Alcázar fortress, representing a winged female holding up her sword to the sky. Here is a great craft beer which IS NOT IPA. A departure from true-to-style brewing, we put a little bit of everything we’ve learned into this uniquely inclusive expression. Biscuity and bittersweet, familiar and unfamiliar, way more going on than its light colour and alcohol content would suggest. Let us raise our goblets to the sky in one accord.

The Wee Bit Heavy is a 6.5% Scottish-style ale featuring Golden Promise, Marris Otter, and Rahr Pale malts, and Magnum and Progress hops. Along with these two new beers, Pizzeoli will be featuring the English IPA and American Brown.

Stop by tomorrow, enjoy some beer and delicious pizza.

llywelyns-243x300Some of us, like yours truly have never known a world without Llywelyn’s Pub. They’ve now been in St. Louis for over 40 years. To celebrate this amazing accomplishment Llywelyn’s has partnered with a couple of local breweries to brew a special ale.

The first in these special collaborations is a collaboration into itself as Llywelyn’s partnered with Schlafly and Civil Life Brewing to create a beer that they’ve deemed as a “Welsh Ale.” This very special beer features the same ABV, SRM, IBUs and malt bill. The only difference are the types of hops used.

This Welsh Ale is 5.0% ABV, 20 IBU and 15 SRM. The malt bill features Marris Otter, Crystal, Amber, and Torrified Wheat. Schlafly version used Admiral and East Kent Goldings hops, while the Civil Life version used Fuggles.

Llyweyln’s will be tapping the Schlafly version of this beer(which they’ve dubbed Volume 1) at 3PM at all of their locations. As part of their “Brew You Never Knew” series, the Webster and St. Charles locations will be serving up the a firkin of this special beer. We can expect the Civil Life version in the near future as well.

Congrats to Llywelyn’s for this very special anniversary! Head on out to try this fantastic collaboration.

civillifeThe Civil Life Brewing Company has made a name for itself by not only providing one of the best tasting room experiences in St. Louis, but by crafting some of the best session ales in the world. Well, big changes are coming to Civil Life and owner Jake Hafner was nice enough to give us the inside scoop.

The two biggest changes coming in the brewery. Civil Life has added two 60bbl fermenters to their brewery which will help to expand their yearly brewing capacity. What will they do with all of that expansion? Well, they’re putting in a canning line that should be operational this August. That’s right, you’ll soon be able to find 16oz (proper pints, please!) Civil Life beers in your favorite retail markets.

If that’s not big enough, Civil Life has also expanded its sales territory and has partnered with Koerner Distributor in Southern Illinois. So you east side folks that have been looking to get Civil should be able to see it in your watering holes soon.

But the news keeps getting bigger, in this case bigger as in ABV. To celebrate all of this big news Civil Life is crafting three special higher ABV offerings that will range from 6.5%-7%. The first offering, which is a bigger version of their world-class American Brown, will be available this evening at their tasting room and they’re calling it Big Year Brown.

One final bit of news is that Civil Life is partnering with STL Hops for our second collaboration beer (more news on the first coming soon) called Gordian Knot Bock which will be part of this new 6.5-7% line-up. Big news for everyone and big hugs to Civil Life for being so awesome.
