2ndshiftlogoIsn’t fun to be a VIP? Any time you get that inside scoop or special access, you feel like a rock star.  2nd Shift Brewing is helping you feel like an insider as we’re doing a very special sneak preview of the new location tomorrow, June 9th starting at 6PM.

This isn’t going to be just any sneak preview, it’s going to be a party. Not only will you be able to view the new space, but it’s going to be a bottle release (more on that in a bit), we’re going to have beers on draught, and the Mission Taco Truck will be there to fill your belly.

As far as the bottle release goes, this will be your first opportunity to purchase the newest fruited version of Katy, Apricot Katy. You’ll also have the chance to purchase Annabelle, which I believe (and I don’t say this lightly) Steve Crider’s finest funky beer to date.  The newest version of Unicorn Killer will also be available for purchase as well.

If that wasn’t enough, we’ll have a killer line-up of beers on draught as well:

  • Brewcocky
  • Katy
  • Chaotic Insecure Delusions
  • Unicorn Killer
  • Hibiscus Wit
  • Art of Neurosis
  • Chateau la Douchebag
  • Blackberry Katy

So, we invite you out for this very special event.  We can’t wait to share our new home with you and this is just the first opportunity to do so.

3rdAnniversaryMy how time flies. It seems like just yesterday that our friends at 4 Hands Brewing Company opened their doors for a “soft opening” that saw people lined up outside the building and down the sidewalk. It was a sight to see. Fast forward to now and the momentum behind 4 Hands is not stopping. Recently kicking off their core beers in cans, big things are in store for the LaSalle Park brewery both here and elsewhere.

This Friday, January 16th starting at noon, 4 Hands will be celebrating their 3rd Anniversary at the brewery. The tasting room will open normally at noon, and a lot of really cool beers will be on tap.

Friday’s festivities will see the official release of The Woodsman, their 3rd anniversary beer. Inspired by the Frank Baum’s The Tin Woodman of Oz, The Woodsman is a blended Imperial Stout. This beer is 50% Imperial Milk Stout aged in Bourbon Barrels and 50% Imperial Oatmeal Stout fermented in stainless steel. They will release both draft and bottles starting at noon. There will be a 3 bottle limit.

Rotating Draft List:

  • The Woodsman – (we hope to have enough to serve on draft all night)
  • Volume #1
  • Volume #2
  • Ill Repute
  • Blackberry Chocolate Milk Stout (Last keg at the brewery)
  • Beyond the Bricks
  • Barrel Aged Late Harvest (Saison with Wild Honey, Persimmons, and Ginger, aged in Big O ginger Liqueur Barrels)
  • Madagascar
  • Downfall (Formerly Eclipse – Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Milk Stout with Raspberries)

We’re also told that besides their normal setup, The 5th Wheel will be selling burgers on the sidewalk.

With this fantastic lineup and The Woodsman bottle release this is surely to be a great celebration. Head on down and congratulate the crew at 4 Hands.

label_BA_sumpDo you want the good news or the bad news?  I’ll give you the bad news first, though it’s not exactly earth-shattering. The release of Perennial Artisan Ale‘s Sump Coffee Stout, which was originally supposed to occur this Thursday, has been pushed back a week.

What’s the good news?  Well, you now have one more week to prepare your liver for an epic Sump release that will occur next Thursday, January 15th.

Beginning at 4PM next Thursday, bottles of Sump, the delicious coffee stout made with coffee from Sump Coffee, will be available for purchase ($17/bottle with a two bottle limit).  Draft pours of Sump will begin at 6PM along with a live Kyoto Sump Coffee blending.

As an added treat, also beginning at 4PM Perennial will be putting on some of their big stout hitters to please your palate.  The line-up includes:

2014 Barrel-Aged Sump Coffee Stout
2014 Coffee Abraxas
2014 Barrel-Aged 17 (Mint Chocolate Stout)
2014 Abraxas
Perennial/New Belgium Salted Chocolate Stout

Now, isn’t that worth waiting an extra week for?  Here’s the official email from Emily Wymore at Perennial regarding the delay:

We at Perennial Artisan Ales regret to announce that we will be delaying the release of 2015 Sump Coffee Stout until Thursday, January 15th. After tasting the first batch, Phil, Cory and Scott have decided to reformulate the blend prior to packaging and release. As always, it is both Perennial and Sump Coffee’s top priority to present the best product possible. We appreciate your support and understanding in this decision and look forward to sharing our final product with you all.

On Thursday, January 15th, the release event will proceed as planned.
