Still looking for that elusive Schlafly American IPA?  Well, wouldn’t it be nice if you could have it in your own neighborhood? Well, this week is your big break as there will be two casks of this delicious beer available in the metro area.  Here are the details:

O’Leary’s Pub – Thursday, March 11th – 6:30PM
Bigelo’s Bistro – Saturday, March 13th – 12PM

founders_logoThis is a big update in two ways.  One is that I have exciting news about two of the most sought after beers from Founders Brewing.  The other reason the update is big is that both of the beers in question have an ABV above 11%.

According to Missouri Beverage’s Derek Bean, we should begin seeing Founders special release named Nemesis on shelves beginning tomorrow, March 4th.  Nemesis is a wheatwine.  Ok, it’s not just any old wheatwine, here’s their description of the beer:

“The 2009 release of Nemesis is best described as a Maple Bourbon barrel aged wheat wine holding 12% abv and 70 ibu’s. The barrels have been resting deep in the mines of Grand Rapids for nearly 9 months and have been most effective in developing a great product. The Bourbon barrels we used in this creation were once used to age Maple syrup from northern Michigan, then emptied, and procured for our use in aging this beer. The combination of American oak, Kentucky Bourbon, Michigan Maple syrup and our golden/tan wheat ale has provided a delicious malty sweet ale distinctive of strong vanilla and bourbon notes.”

As you can imagine, this will be a very sought after beer and will disappear from store shelves quickly. Don’t miss out on this.

The other big beer is the yearly release of Founders KBS (previously known as Kentucky Breakfast Stout.) KBS Day will be celebrated on Saturday, March 13 at the Founders brewery. What that means for St. Louis is that we’ll begin seeing KBS show up on store shelves and on draught on Monday, March 15th!

Where could we be seeing this on draught?  Early reports is that we’ll be seeing it at Bigelo’s Bistro and The Good Pie has already said they’ll be tapping a keg on March 15th. I know I’ll be there.

It’s always fun to walk into your local watering hole and see a cask of beer sitting on the bar.  So here’s a couple of chances to drink some Schlafly cask beer in your neighborhood this week:

Bleeding Deacon – Thursday, February 25th – 6PM
Bigelo’s Bistro – Friday, February 26th – 4PM

biglogo.JPGMark from Bigelo’s Bistro was kind enough to provide two tickets to their Valentine’s Beer dinner featuring Sierra Nevada beers. The dinner is on Sunday, February 14th at 4 pm and Bigelo’s is located in Edwardsville, Illinois.

If you’re interested in winning tickets that include a five courses being paired with five different beers (you will be required to pay the gratuity) email contest@stlhops.com with a subject of “Bigelo’s Valentine Beer Dinner” and tell me what your favorite beer is only available in Illinois. A couple of quick notes:

  • You much be 21 or older to enter.
  • No multiple entries.
  • If you don’t think you’ll be able to attend, please don’t enter. I’d like to make sure that people available to attend have a chance to win.

biglogo.JPGAh, it’s almost that time of year, the time to remind your significant other that you care for them, and by significant other, I mean beer. Bigelo’s Bistro will be hosting a Beer Dinner on Sunday, February 14th starting at 4PM.

This dinner will be pairing five courses with five different beers from the Sierra Nevada Brewing Company.  The cost of the dinner will be $39 (tax and gratuity is not included).

Also on hand for the event will be Steve Thiel of Sierra Nevada.  Steve will be there to discuss the beers as well as the pairings for each course.

Tickets for this event must be purchased in advance.  Call 618-655-1471 for more information. Stay tuned next week as I’ll be giving away two tickets for this event.

bigeloscaskIf you’re like me, you may be missing out on Cabin Fever at the Schlafly Bottleworks this year.  Well, if you’re still craving some delicious Schlafly beer, I have another option for you.

Last year, I showed you a photo of just some of the casks that Schlafly purchased to expand their cask beer program. Well, when you have this many casks at your disposal, it means you get to put on events showcasing your beer.

In this case, it’s taking a cask of Schlafly beer and serving it at Bigelo’s Bistro in Edwardsville, Illinois.

This Satuday, January 23rd, starting a 6PM, a representative from Schlafly will be tapping a cask of Dry-Hopped APA and will be serving it until the cask runs out or until Bigelo’s closes.

Sure, you can get cask beer at the Tap Room, but you can get to see Jerad Gardner’s smiling face while drinking it?  This is like the best of both worlds.

beer 1665While this probably could have been a news story in itself, some of you may now know that Jerad Gardner no longer is working with Amalgamated Brewing.  But, for those of you looking for your Jerad fix, fear not.

Mark Pruitt from Bigelo’s Bistro knows a good opportunity when he sees it and has offered Jerad a job bartending on Friday and Saturday nights at Bigelo’s.  What’s more is that starting December 4th, Bigelo’s will now be open until 11 or 12AM on Fridays and Saturdays.

Last I saw, Bigelo’s has Three Floyds Gumballhead on draught, seems like a good excuse to visit Bigelo’s and Jerad this Friday night.
