elijahpsTo celebrate American Craft Beer Week, Elijah P’s in Alton is teaming up with Destihl Brewery to put on a very special event. Beginning at 6:30PM on May 17th, Elijah P’s will be hosting a four-course beer dinner featuring six different Destihl beers. Here’s a look at the menu:

Passed appetizers and opening comments w/ Abbey’s Single
-Smoked salmon “Loli Pops” with dill red pepper creme cheese
-Crostini with olive tapinade, sweet fig reduction sauce, and shaved asiago
-Dates stuffed with bleu cheese and wrapped with bacon

1st Course w/ Weissenheimer
Icelandic cod filet poached in lemon scented olive oil, topped with coconut, parsley, and lemon gremolata with Peruvian purple potatoes

2nd Course w/ Flanders Red
Baby kale and butter lettuce tossed in a dark cherry vinaigrette with toasted faro, walnuts, ricotta cheese, and pickled sweet potatoes and topped with fried shoestring Vidalia onions

Palate Cleanser w/ Vertex IPA
Maple orange granita

Entree w/ Antiquity Rye Wine
Braised beef shank served over whole wheat black pepper pappardelle noodles finished with a ginger snap gravy, french beans, and smoked piquillo peppers

Dessert w/ Privyet
“S’mores Cone”- Belgian dark chocolate mousse, marshmallow cream, caramel, and smoked peanuts in a graham cracker waffle cone

The cost of this beer dinner is $75 plus tax and gratuity and you can make reservations by calling (618) 433-8445. But if you’re feeling lucky, Elijah P’s has graciously given STL Hops two tickets to give away for this event.

Here’s a look at the events happening at these locations this week:

Urban Chestnut

Monday (5/11) – “A Case of the Mondays”: It isn’t always so terrible to have a “Case of the Mondays”: purchase a case of UCBC bier from our Midtown Brewery & Biergarten or Grove Brewery & Bierhall and get UCBC SWAG!

Tuesday (5/12)Prost! to STL Women’s Craft Beer Clubs: St. Louis is fortunate to have some wonderful groups dedicated to celebrating women in craft beer. We’re inviting all women who love craft beer, including Femme Ferment, St. Louis Girls Pint Out, and The OG to our Grove Brewery & Bierhall to celebrate with $4 beers for all female beer fanatics!

Wednesday (5/13)Winged Nut Wednesdays: Celebrate our Signature Ale with these nutty specials: $3 Winged Nut pours (add Corn Nuts for only $2), and a special Winged Nut-infused Poutine!

Thursday (5/14) – Cask & Cheese: Our very own Chef Andrew Fair (also an American Cheese Society Certified Cheese Professional) will offer cheese pairings with unique UCBC cask ales all day at our Midtown Brewery & Biergarten!

Friday (5/15) – Cardinals & Craft Beer: Support local! Wear St. Louis Cardinals or UCBC gear to our Midtown Brewery & Biergarten or our Grove Brewery & Bierhall and get $4 STLIPAs! With the Detroit Tigers in town for the weekend, we’ll also feature three guest taps from Michigan brewery Jolly Pumpkin!

Saturday (5/16) – Oktoberfest in May: Oktoberfest is only 4 months away; it’s not too early to begin the preparations with German food, German music, and Masskrugstemmen (stein holding contest)! It’ll be just like Oktober…er…September, except we’ll have a whole Summer of Biergarten days to look forward to!

Sunday (5/17) – Sustainability Sunday: Did you know that our Grove Brewery & Bierhall is the only LEED Certified Brewery in Missouri? That means part of our Urban Efforts involves access to public transportation and access to bicycle parking. Join us in promoting sustainability by taking Metro St. Louis or riding your bike to the Grove Brewery & Bierhall on Sunday May 17, and receive $3 Zwickels! Just show us your bike or a valid Metro St. Louis pass.

ALL WEEK – VIP Tour and Tasting:  Our Self-Guided Tours at the Grove Brewery & Bierhall is debuting the option for a VIP Tour & Tasting! The purchase of a VIP Tour and Tasting comes with a souvenir glass and punch card good for four samples of UCBC bier!

Social Media Contest: We want to know how you Biergarten*! Share your best photos from the Midtown Brewery & Biergarten on Twitter and Instagram and use the hashtag #ucbcBiergartening. The best photo will be rewarded with a $25 gift certificate redeemable at the Midtown Brewery & Biergarten!

*”To Biergarten” or “Biergartening” is a verb meaning to enjoy a day/evening in the Biergarten.

Civil Life Brewing

We are going to be celebrating American Craft Beer Week at the pub and we are calling it a Civil Week of Cask. This will run from Tuesday, May 12 at 4pm until Saturday, May 16 at 10pm. We will be pouring traditional cask all week long. 

Craft Beer Cellar 

1 – Cathedral Square – 5/12 – 4PM to 7PM

We got a keg of St. Jewbelation which is barrel aged in Hebrew Funky Jewbelation barrels (which as you know is a blend of several different barrel aged beers). We’ll be tapping this at 5 PM. This one is free to sample. Cathedral Square dudes will be on hand to sample out all of their beers.

 2 – Abita – 5/13 – 6PM to 9PM

We got a keg of Pappy van Winkel barrel aged Baltic Porter and the Macciato milk stout. Both will be tapped at 6PM. They are free to sample and pours are $4. The Abita folks will be on hand to sample all of their seasonal and regular lineup beers.

3 – New Holland – 5/14 – 5PM to 8PM

We are featuring Dragons Milk, Beer Barrel Bourbon, and donuts from Strange Donuts MADE with Dragons Milk! This one will be a lot of fun! It’s free to attend, free samples, and free dones.

4 – 1 YEAR ANNIVERSARY – 5/16 – ALL DAY

Our 1 year anniversary party is coming up this week. We’re getting a TON of awesome stuff on draft. Take a look at this:

  • Civil Life Super Hopped Rye Pale Ale – 10 AM
    These guys never leave their wheelhouse. But we got them to make us a cask dry-hopped variant of their gold medal Rye Pale ale!
  • Perennial Kiwi Berliner – 1 PM
    They brewed us a special beer for our anniversary. You cannot get this bad boy anywhere else!
  • 4 Hands Pineapple Contact High – 4 PM
    We got them to make us a pineapple variant of Contact High
  • 2nd Shift ??? – 7 PM
    Crider is making us a mystery beer. We have ABSOLUTELY no idea what to expect here. But we know it’s going to be crazy!

 Plus, all day, we’re going to have 2 beers on draft that are 100% free. We’re limiting this to 1 of each per person so it can spread way out but it’s free ALL FREAKIN DAY!

globalI don’t know about you, but I’m always looking for another reason to find a reason to enjoy some craft beer. A celebration of all things craft beer seems about the most perfect reason to enjoy some craft beer.

American Craft Beer Week kicks off today and Global Brew Tap House is getting in on the fun with a full week of festivities.  The best part of Global throwing all of these parties is the wide variety of beers that Global gets on the east side of the river.  Here’s a look at the events beginning tonight, May 12th and running through to Saturday, May 17th:

acbw_badge2Chances are if you visit this blog you know that May 13-19 is American Craft Beer Week.  If you did not know this, don’t feel bad, Six Row Brewing Company and Square One Brewery have you covered. Here’s a look at the events happening at these two locations this week:

Square One:

Monday through Friday May 13-17 from 5-7 pm Dr. John Witte will be the guest bartender at Square One Brewery and Distillery.

Enjoy a few pints (try our Maibock, Saison or Our GAL or any of your year round favorites) and pick the brewers brain. Wish John a happy brewers birthday (April 27 was 19 years professionally brewing in St. Louis) and you will get $1.00 off your purchase of any logo glassware.

Saturday May 18 Square One will host its monthly beer and spirits school-with a twist. This month will feature a beer and cheese tasting, hosted by Dr. Witte, along with the usual history lesson and brewery tour. Class is limited to the first 25 who call the restaurant to register and begins at 11 am. A handful of spots are still available.

Six Row Brewing:

All week long we’ll be pouring Llewellyn’s Pretender to the Throne Hoppy Wheat, a beer brewed just for the Llewellyn’s Pubs and available exclusively at their six St. Louis area locations and, for a limited time only, at Six Row’s pub.

Monday, May 13: Killer Whale Returns! After a half-year hibernation, our big, beautiful barleywine resurfaces once again. On tap when we open at 4PM, on the 13th.

Tuesday, May 14: Amarillo dry-hopped cask of Red Eye. Our session Red IPA, cask conditioned with Amarillo hops, available from open to close at a special price of $4/pint.

Wednesday, May 15: Belgians are back! Ambree (our Belgian Single) and our 3rd Anniversary Tripel will be on tap from open to close.

Thursday, May 16: Baumann’s Bacon Porter cask, tapping at 4PM. Don’t miss this rare and popular delicacy. Our regular draft Porter will be back on tap, after a brief hiatus, at the pub as well.

Friday, May 17: TGIPA! All IPAs are $4, including our DIPA, Red Eye and selections from our single dry-hop DIPA series including Simcoe, Mosaic, Warrior, and several others, rotating on tap throughout the day, from open until close.

Saturday, May 18: Stout Saturday! We’ll be serving our Export Stout, Russian Imperial Stout and Oak-aged Sour Export Stout (aged over a year in oak barrels). All Stouts are $4/glass or try all 3 in a specially priced Stout Sampler, from open to close.

So the headline may be a bit misleading, because Boulevard Brewing isn’t angry about American Craft Beer Week, they’re excited. They’re excited about the fun beer and cheese sampling events they’ve put together with Hautly Cheese. Here’s a look at the events:

Small Batch Release of Fresh Strawberry Honey Weizen

Our Honey Weizen is an easy-drinking wheat beer made with a generous portion of honey from Missouri Honey in Florissant, Missouri! With a combination of white wheat malt, honey malt, and locally produced honey, the unfiltered Honey Weizen is a great example of a traditional wheat beer with a twist. It was delicious on its own, and now we’ve added fresh strawberries.

Cask of Peppercorn DIPA

The Peppercorn DIPA lost our Cask Beer Election by one measly vote back in March. It ran such a strong campaign, we had to reward it with a spot during American Craft Beer Week.

Cask of Liquorice Porter

You’ve tried our Porter flavored with Vanilla, Bacon, and Whiskey.  Now we have aged a cask with liquorice root to tantalize your taste buds.

Thursday, May 17

Large Batch Release of Bailene & Beer Pairing Special


The Bailene is our signature Whale style fermented with French Saison yeast. We released a small batch of Bailene last year that went over really well, so it is back and there is more for everyone!

We are still solidifying the menu for the Beer Pairing Special, but it will include a sample of four beers: Plant No. 1 Pilsner, Centennial Rye, Bailene, and Killer Whale. Instead of a formal dinner with a specific start time, it will be a special you can order off the menu while supplies last. It will be a more informal tapas style with all the courses coming out at once to be paired with the beers. We will post the menu and pricing as soon as those details are solidified.

Our Ginger Kolsch went over so well, we decided to similarly spruce up our Centennial Rye using fresh ginger.
