stable_128x126.jpgI’m pleased to announce that the winner for the two tickets to the 2011 Beer Lovers Anonymous is Robert Skinner! Congrats to Robert and thank you everyone for entering. If you didn’t win, don’t be too upset, once again I have some cool stuff to give away soon.

I want to thank Brad Wheeling from Amalgamated Brewing for providing the tickets to this event. Don’t forget, if you don’t win this one, don’t worry I will be holding more contests like this in the future, so you’ll have another chance then. Check back later today with a list of just some of the draught beers available on Saturday!

stable_128x126.jpgYour name is STL Hops Reader, and you have a problem.  The problem is that you haven’t bought your tickets to the 2011 Beer Lovers Anonymous yet. Well today is your lucky day, STL Hops is giving away two passes to next week’s event at The Stable. This $50 value will allow you to enjoy over 20 different beers at one of the coolest venues in town.

All you need to do is email contest@stlhops.com with the subject of “2011 Beer Lovers Anonymous” and include your favorite of cold weather beer.

I want to thank Brad Wheeling from Amalgamated Brewing for providing the tickets to this event. This contest will end on February 17th at 9AM CDT when I will pick a winner at random. If you don’t win this one, don’t worry I will be holding more contests like this in the future, so you’ll have another chance then. Good luck!

stable_128x126.jpgCollaborations are all the rage these days.  While it’s certainly cool to see breweries work together to brew up some neat beer, I particularly enjoy when breweries work with homebrewers to create something new.

When Amalgamated Brewing‘s head brewer Augie Altenbaumer was looking to create some new Belgian style beers at The Stable, one beer in particular stood out to him.  “When I tried this beer at the competition, it was like a puzzle piece clicking into place. I knew wanted to brew this beer,” said Augie.

So, after a phone call to homebrewer (and STL Hops member) Sean Heidmann and a talk over a few beers, they hammered out a recipe for a Rye Saison to be brewed at The Stable.  Here’s Augie’s description of the beer:

~5%abv, ~30IBU, the grain bill contains 15% flaked rye, it is hopped throughout with Amarillo, and is fermented with a “French Saison” yeast (I assume that means the Thiriez yeast strain). The combination of rye, Amarillo hops, and the expressive Saison yeast really make a great tasting beer!

They’ll be brewing up this beer this Sunday, February 13th, so feel free to stop by and watch Augie and Sean like a couple of fish in an aquarium. They’re shooting for a mid-March release of the beer. When it comes out, I’ll be certain to let everyone know.

stable_128x126.jpgIf you’re reading this site, there’s a good chance that one of two things has happened:

  1. You love beer.
  2. You were looking for naked women from St. Louis jumping up and down.

If you’re in the second camp, you need some help.  If you’re in the first camp, then The Stable is here to help you. On Saturday, February 19th from 2PM to 5PM Amalgamated Brewing will be hosting the 4th annual Beer Lovers Anonymous.

This will finally be your chance to face your beer loving demons by drinking a bunch of delicious beer.  If that seems counterintuitive, well, then drink a few more beers and it’ll make more sense. Tickets for Beer Lovers Anonymous are on sale now at The Stable. Tickets will cost $25 in advance or $30 at the door.

As there is a good chance this event sells out, I’d buy your tickets as soon you can as this event is sure to sell out. Apparently they had to turn away at least 50 people last year.

Check back later as I’ll hopefully have a beer list and I’ll also be giving away two tickets for this event.

stable_128x126.jpgI’m pleased to announce that the winner for the two tickets to the Monsters of Beer at The Stable is Tyler Kulasza! Congrats to Tyler and thank you everyone for entering. I’m hoping to have the full line-up of spooky beers for this festival coming later this week.
