homebrew-cfield5Way back when I used to be a homebrewer. It was exciting to know how beer was made and even more exciting when something I crafted also turned out to be delicious.

I always dreamed of having one of my recipes made by a commercial brewery. It’s fun to give your beer to friends to try out and enjoy, but it’s a whole different ballgame to see your beers on tap at your favorite bar. I’m pretty sure this is a dream shared among most homebrewers

Well, the folks at the International Tap House and 4 Hands Brewing have teamed up to give one lucky homebrewer that dream. Next Saturday, April 30th, iTAP Chesterfield hosts its 4th annual Homebrew Competition.

There is still time to enter beers into the competition. Here is the link to the PDF which provides all of the rules and ingredient guidelines for the competition.

The competition begins at 3PM, but the fun doesn’t exclude those of you who aren’t homebrewers. For $5 you can come by iTAP to enjoy samples from all of the entries and vote for a “People’s Choice” winner.  You’ll also have your first chance to try the debut of the 3rd annual winning homebrew, a Pineapple IPA from Kevin Hampton.

If you happen to also like BBQ, PM BBQ will be featuring some tasty eats. BBQ and homebrew? There are few better ways to spend a Sunday afternoon.

lupulin-2016-altIt’s that time of the year again, time to celebrate our love of the hop. (Granted many of us celebrate our love of the hop every day.) But how can we celebrate this wonderful flower?

How about a beer carnival? On Saturday April 2nd, from 2PM-6PM 4 Hands Brewing Company will host their fifth annual beer festival with friends. The Lupulin Carnival is a celebration of the hop and will also be the release of the War Hammer Imperial IPA.

As always, the festival will be a carnival theme including area acts performing death-defying feats, including fire breathers, fortune tellers and acrobatics. There will be carnival games as well with 100% of that profit going to St. Louis Winter Outreach.

The Ferris wheel will also be returning!

Tickets will be $50 and will include a hop forward selection from participating local breweries, tasting glass, and access to all of the carnival activities. Here’s a current look at the participating breweries:

cellarbration IISome of us nerdy people like to hold on to beers. We keep them all nice and cozy in our little cellars waiting for that perfect opportunity to crack them open.

But sometimes the perfect opportunity is to just head to your cellar and pop something open for your own enjoyment. Well, Llywelyn’s Pub agrees with that idea and wants to throw a little party to pop open some bottles from their cellar.

That Saturday, March 5th, starting at 9:30AM, Llywelyn’s in Webster is throwing a Cellarbration. They’re going to be busting out some cool bottles from their cellar for you to purchase and enjoy. (And if you haven’t had a chance to try their new brunch, you should, it’s pretty delicious.)

Bottles will include Goose Island BCS variants, Firestone Walker variants, some of the Goose Sour Sisters, and some other rare goodies.  The 4 Hands Apple Brandy Woodsman will be on draft along with the Perennial Jameson Whiskey collab.

So, no need to bust into your cellar when Llywelyn’s will do it for you.

gallaghersYou ever have that restaurant that everyone recommends and you just haven’t had the opportunity to visit?  For me that was Gallagher’s in Waterloo. Heard nothing but awesome things about it but never got a chance to visit until this past October.

The best part?  It lived up to the hype.  The second best part? They had an awesome beer selection. If you haven’t had a chance to visit yourself, you’re in luck because Gallagher’s is working with 4 Hands Brewing Co. to put on a beer dinner next Wednesday, March 25th.

This four-course dinner will be paired with four different 4 Hands beers.  The full pre-fixe menu will cost you $35 per person.  Here’s a look at the menu:

  • Crab Louie Salad (traditional crab and asparagus salad) served with Single Speed
  • Sesame Scallion Flatbread with Vietnamese bologna, pickled daikon and Chinese mustard, served with Divided Sky Rye IPA
  • Duck Leg Confit with orange zest carmelized onion served with potatoes and shallots fried in duck fat, served with Alter Ego
  • Rice Krispy Truffle Tort served with Peanut Butter Choclate Milk Stout
  • Bonus Beer – Bona Fide Imperial Stout & Sugar and Spice

Dinner begins at 6:30PM and tickets can be purchased online here. See what all the fuss is about and go visit Gallagher’s.
