Starrs April Beer Dinner Photos
May 5, 2008 11:46 am Beer EventsIrene and I attended that first Starr’s Beer Dinner on Wednesday, April 30th and I thought I’d provide some photos for you. But before I post the photos, here are some quick thoughts:
- All of the food was pretty good. The pairings were excellent in some cases and missed the mark on others. But having two beers per course to pair them was a nice addition.
- Five courses and the amount of food they gave us was a bit much. By the time dessert rolled around I was stuffed.
- Bud Starr mentioned to me that he’ll probably be doing all of his beer dinners with different beers from different breweries each time.
- If you didn’t make this one, I strongly recommend making the next one, it was a great, great time.

i have yet to actually eat at Starr’s. I have heard VERY mixed reviews and some of them were pretty derogatory. Glad to hear you had a nice meal. I wish them luck with the beer dinners.

I just read Anni’s comment and I would invite everyone to read our POSITIVE reviews on STLTODAY(Post Dispatch), Sauce magazine, Riverfront Times and even the Ladue News. I really do not know how to respond to this kind of untrue comment as I have no idea who this person is , perhaps she needs to come in and try our place before trashing us anonymously online.

my friends and i (total=6) had a blast at the april beer dinner. the food was excellent, including the veg fare. the pairings were all good and some were beyond that. bud was an excellent host and we are all looking forward to the next one.
ps-starrs is trying very hard to be a one stop shop for beer nerds. the folks that work there are knowledgeable and they have a great selection.

Maybe Anni should try Starr’s before posting negative hearsay.
I thought that the beer dinner was outstanding! For one thing, they thoughtfully provide vegetarian options. They also provided two different beers with each course, to further diversify the samplings.
My dinner began with a very nice salad with two contrasting wheat beers. Next came a sweet potato chipotle soup, paired with two Imperial IPA’s, including Bell’s Hopslam(!) that stood up to the soup’s rich flavor. The third course was spicy jumbo shrimp with two of Pilsners. A fourth course highlight were the succulent short ribs with Gouden Carlous Gran Cru 2007 (wonderful stuff!) and Meantime London Porter.
I admit that I took my dessert to go, but that was because the food was so good it was difficult to not finish every serving! So for me, the meal finished with a nicely contrasting Cherry Ale and Double Stout.
I strongly recommend attending the next Starr’s beer dinner! It’s a wonderful time!
Cheers!
