I have to be honest, I don’t know very much about Catholic saints. I mean, I know what they are, but I couldn’t name more than five to save my life (and all five that I’d name would be hospitals or churches.) While I did know that the city of St. Louis was named after Louis IX of France, I wasn’t aware he was also our patron saint. You learn new things every day.
It turns out that on the Catholic liturgical calendar, August 25th is the Feast day of Louis IX. A Feast Day, for those of you, like me, who didn’t know is a celebration of specific saints. While the Royale was inspired by the Catholic holiday to put on an event, their focus is more on the local and less on the religious.
Today, starting at 5:30PM, the Royale will be throwing an event celebrating all things St. Louis. Specifically for us beer guys, they’re put together one humdinger of an event. They’ve invited out all of the St. Louis city breweries that will open or have opened in 2011 to create special beers to honor this great city of ours. Here’s a list:
The UCBC beer is a French-style Saison which will be available on draught and also they’ll have a very special cask. The neatest part about the cask? It was dry-hopped with local hops from a St. Louisan’s backyard. There will also be a keg of Schlafly‘s always delicious Bière de Garde available as well.
This is a great opportunity to celebrate and honor St. Louis by drinking some of the best beers the city has to offer.
