In our follow-up meeting after St. Louis Craft Beer Week, I congratulated Llywelyn’s Pub and gave them the Most Valuable Player award. They had an event every night of the week during STLCBW, it was a very strong effort that deserved a special “thumbs up” from me.
So, it came as no surprise to me when I found out that Llywelyn’s general manager Tom Behnen was working with Six Row Brewing to create a special one-off beer for all of their locations. Called “Prince in Exile” it’s a Russian Imperial Stout that Tom designed with Six Row’s head brewer Evan Hiatt.
It’s a big beer with 10% ABV and 97 IBUs. The recipe includes Golding hops, Maris Otter, 60L Crystal Malt, 120L Crystal Malt, and tons of Chocolate Malt.
The release of the beer started last night at the Central West End location of Llywelyn’s and continues tonight with the release at the Soulard location. The train keeps rolling with the beer being featured at the St. Charles and Webster locations as part of the Brew You Never Knew program. The final release will take place at the Winghaven location on Friday. The beer will be available at 3PM each day.
I’m sure this won’t be the last collaboration we see at Llywelyn’s. If so, their new slogan might become “Celtic for craft beer.”
