When there’s a gap in the brewing schedule at the Schlafly Bottleworks, which rarely happens, it means the brewers can squeeze in a special brew session.  In this case Joseph Davis, Drew Huerter, and James Hellmuth worked to quickly put together a recipe and came up with the BC Rye American Strong.

Here’s the details about the beer:

2 Row Pale Malt, Munich, C 60, Flaked Rye, Roasted Barley
Simcoe, Columbus, Chinook & Mount Hood hops
English Ale yeast

7.4% ABV
46 IBUs

Drew described it as “a brick red, strong, hoppy but balanced American ale brewed with 10% flaked rye for spicy flavor and full body”.  This strong beer will be tapped tomorrow (12/10/10)  for what looks to be a very strong weather weekend. As with all of the Brewer’s Choice beers, this will only be available at the Schlafly Bottleworks and will probably go fast.
