Just about every Tuesday evening, The Royale hosts an event where they guide you through the wonderful world of beer styles, breweries and beer history. This week they’ll be featuring an event they call: “The Original Smokebeer.” Here’s a quick synopsis of what will be on tap:
“Schlenkerla” is the brand name of the world-renowned smoked beer to come out of Bamberg, in northern Bavaria. The original. It’s still brewed in accordance with the 1516 Reinheitsgebot (“purity law”), the barley malt is still kilned over beechwood fires, and the beer is packaged and served in traditional wooden kegs.
We got our hands on one of those beautiful barrels and will be tapping our Aecht Schlenkerla Märzen promptly at 6pm on Tuesday June 7th. We’re also planning on firing up the grill to cook a few batches of bratwurst.
This will be the smokiest night the Royale’s seen in years.
This is absolutely the first time I’ve seen a cask of this beer ever come into St. Louis, so this is a very big deal.
The Royale is one the finest pubs in St. Louis to enjoy a beer and their employees are extremely passionate and extremely knowledgeable people. This is a great opportunity to not only enjoy some great beer, but to learn about just some of the great styles of beer and breweries we have available in St. Louis.
