I think I’m in love. My new love? Urban Chestnut Brewing Company‘s Schnicklefritz. I love me some delicious Bavarian Weissbier and I’m shocked a guy from Munich can brew such a great beer. Shocked, I tells ya!
The pictures, which I took earlier in the evening, don’t do justice to how many people showed up at UCBC last night. The place was packed and there were at least 4 people deep at the bar at one point. Way to go St. Louis! You really brought it last night and I’m very proud of what the craft beer community has become.
I didn’t list these yesterday, as I didn’t know if it was kosher, but as they’re listed on the menu here’s a list of the beers we’ll be seeing soon from UCBC:
Winged Nut – Our signature, ‘nutty’ ale is brewed with finely milled chestnuts, Willamette Valley Hops, and a yeast strain that fans of Weihenstephan may recognize. ABV- 6.5%, IBU’s- 25, OG – 14.5 Plato (UCBC Goblet)
Hopfen – A beer we are describing as a ‘Bavarian IPA’. Brewed and dry-hopped with a variety of Hallertau ‘hopfen’… instead of the usual and more citric hop varieties of most American IPA’s… gives this beer a decidedly German twist ABV- 6.2%, IBU’s- 55, OG – 14.5 Plato (Goblet)
Hop Switch – The merits of this pilsner stand on their own, but this beer was created to demonstrate how significantly you can alter a beer’s taste and aroma by simply and only changing(switching) the hop variety in an otherwise exact same beer. We used the Willamette hop in Hop Switch as opposed to the Hallertau hop we used in Oxnbrau. We recommend you sample them side-by-side. ABV- 4.9%, IBU’s- 35, OG – 12.1 Plato (Pilsner)
Zwickel – Our flagship lager, pronounced ‘zv-ick-el’, is an unfiltered, unpasteurized, German classic that finishes as a smooth-drinking, vitamin rich (from the yeast), naturally cloudy bier. Hops: Hallertau Malts: Two-Row & Pilsner ABV- 4.8%, IBU’s- 19, OG – 11.5 Plato (Stein)
Holzrauch – (German for ‘wood smoke’) Is a Rauchbier- a medium-bodied, malt-intense, somewhat smoky style that may have your nose and palate asking your brain, “Where’s the fire?” ABV- 5.4%, IBU’s- 21, OG – 12.8 Plato (Willi)
Oxnbrau – A classic, well-attenuated, German Pilsner- Bitter, medium-light bodied with a nice malty sweetness. Observe its thick, dense and rich head. –Hops: Hallertau Malts: Pilsner ABV- 4.9%, IBU’s- 35, OG – 12.1 Plato (Pilsner)
