Photos from 2008 Microfest
June 10, 2008 10:02 am Beer NewsAll of the bands that showed up to the 2008 Microfest should have played Buster Poindexter’s tune “Hot, Hot, Hot” on a loop just to remind you that the sun was no one’s bitch today. It was a lively event, but the hour I showed up I developed a slight sunburn. No fun. Also, what’s the point of getting a 6oz VIP tasting glass if you’re still only going to fill it up 1oz? I’m sure it has something to do with liquor laws, but it just seemed silly. Anyway, here are some of the photos:

Is that Bear Republic in pic 1064?
Are they possibly venturing into the St. Louis area?
I know they have distributors in Illinois, but I think it’s primarily the Chicago area.

Yeah, Bear Republic had some bottles there. I don’t think they are coming to MO though.
New Albanian was there, and they don’t bottle beer or distribute outside of IN.

I heard from Dylan at 33 that Bear Republic would be coming to MO, no firm dates though. The Bear Republic beers where brought by the distributor. New Albanian was represented by the brewery.

Anybody disappointed by the VIP tent? Last year, the only interesting beers where in the VIP tent (unreleased boulevard smokestack, etc.) and a few bowls of chips. This year, there was a food buffet but the beer being poured was from sixpacks you can get at a decent schnuck’s? I prefer not having to pay extra to taste interesting beers at a beer festival, but it would be nice to know what you are getting. The website even states: “Specialty beers not found in the rest of the Microfest”, which was not true.

I second Jeff’s comments. In general this festival is underwhelming, and anyone who expects me to pay extra purely for the feeling of being Very Important is delusional. I’ve always said, beer festivals should be run by beer people.
All that said, my dad had a great time.

Mmmmmm . . . . Bear Republic. Racer 5 and Hop Rod Rye are two beers that give Two-Hearted a run for my hoppy goodness money.

That would be awesome if Bear Republic made it’s way to St. Louis.
Please fill us in if anyone hears a possible date of arrival.

Had a quick chat with somebody behind the New Albanian taps and was told they are attempting to go regional this year or next. He laughed when we mentioned Missouri and said (jokingly?)we were part of the 2011 plan. But they led us to believe Illinois could be in the cards in the near future.

We (O’Fallon) had pumpkin beer on tap in the VIP tent, you can’t buy that right now, and we weren’t serving it in our booth. I kegged it on friday. I talked to the MOBEV guy and he said Bear Republic will be in their lineup soon, about frickin time. Ummmmm Hop Rod Rye.

A 1oz VIP tasting glass would be a shot glass

There are not too many breweries that I would rather see here more than Bear Republic.

Dave’s right, we had Punkin in the VIP only.
And, the other folks who were talkin bout Bear Republic are right that MoVBev is bringing them in starting soon.
But, I’m gettin married tomorrow and Guitars, Cadillacs, Hillbilly Music!…
