Pappy van Winkle Smoked Porter in the Wild
April 22, 2008 11:04 am Beer NewsI’ve been told that the Wine and Cheese Place in Rock Hill and Provisions Gourmet Market received their allocations of the O’Fallon Pappy van Winkle Smoked Porter. This is a very limited release (and my guess is that this is a one time only thing.) So make sure to check your local store for availability and buy it as soon as possible. Also, I’ll be at tonight’s release party at Riddle’s Penultimate, hope to see you there.
Edit: Here’s a photo of the bottle of Pappy van Winkle Smoked Porter. Thanks for Scotty P for providing it!

Im new to your blog, looks great so far. Im a St Louisan and a major beer nut. What differentiates this porter from the regular porter?

Okay, I just saw that its bourbon aged porter. Not my bag, I thought it might be an imperial in which case I would have killed for one!

The Porter is also made with smoked malt. The bourbon aging takes place in the Pappy Van Winkle barrels which held the bourbon for 23 years.

I had a couple last night at Riddles it’s tasty stuff. The bourbon flavor aroma is very subdued which is nice in my opinion. I’ve had lots of other barrel aged beers that were simply over powering and the actual beer flavors, aromas, etc are lost…beer and shot style. Anyways, if you are an o’fallon smoked porter fan, definately give this a try.

I finally cracked open my previous bottle of O’Fallon Whiskey Barrel Aged Smoked Porter this past weekend and it was splendid. Do you know if the Clayton (Wine & Cheese) location will also have these bottles?

I just grabbed what is apparently the last bottle at the Rock Hill location (sorry!). They mentioned that there are a few at the Clayton location. I can’t wait to try it, but for some reason I want to sit on this for a while

Tim, in answer to your above question, the Clayton Wine & Cheese location should have bottles available. And, in fact, for you lucky ones attending their Beer Fest this Saturday, we will be sampling 1 bottle each of the January Edition and the new Pappy version.
By the way, for those of you interested in still picking up a bottle or two of the January Edition, here’s where I recently noticed a few bottles still this week:
Hampton House of Liquors
Wine & Cheese Rock Hill
Cicero’s
Wine Merchant Creve Coeur
Cheers!

Mine is on order at TWCP on Clayton out near Town and Country. They didn’t have any in stock, but I was told one was reserved for me.
I may stop by DeVine and grab another..

Picked up 2 at Devine last night. There were 2 left when I left at 6:15.
Mike, you need to put a picture of these bottle up, this is a really nice packaging that O’Fallon pulled off this time. Including the write-up and the bottle numbering and dating.

That’s a good call Sam. I’ll put one up tonight. Unless someone wants to email me one sooner?
