We’ve gotten a lot of casks over the last few years in St. Louis, and without a doubt most of them have been hoppy. Which is great if you like hoppy beers, but what if you’re in the mood for something different.
Without a doubt, tonight’s cask at the International Tap House in Soulard is different. Being the lovable schnorrers they are, Brad and Sean (owners of iTAP) begged Odell to give us something cool and Odell lovingly obliged.
Tonight, beginning at 6PM, iTAP will be tapping a cask of The Meddler, an Oude Bruin. Needless to say, this is a very special cask. Here’s the description from Odell’s website:
A resurrected style from the Flemish region of Belgium, The Meddler oud bruin is a crafty concoction, comprised of several generations of brown ales, barrel aged and blended. Wild yeasts, Lactobacillus, and Brettanomyces meddle with the brew for over 18 months creating complexity and depth of flavor. Hints of malty sweet chocolate and vanilla toy with a hauntingly sour finish. Intricate yet balanced, The Meddler will leave you craving more of the mysterious brew.
Not sure if we’re going to see this one in bottles in the St. Louis area, so this may be your only chance to try this beer in town. Get your butts up to iTAP tonight and help to drain this cask.
