I'll be there. Leaving work at 5pm, stopping by 33 Wine Bar for a pint, then the Vincent's to pick up the keg of Fat Tire, then back home to brew an ESB.

I will be in my usual stool. Trust me this will go quick! And that doesn't even take into account the amount of beer Dylan will end up with on his shirt when he taps the cask! :D

They got extra Bell's tulips in for the occasion.

I'll be there for sure. I just mashed in a small batch of Imperial Czech Pilsner at MBC and plan to swing by the Taproom to try some of our Vanilla Coffee Stout Cask along with the Imperial Stout that goes on today, as well.

Mike, you might want to edit the subject of the thread so Dylan, Jake and Mike don't have a bunch of pissed-off people Saturday night.

For anyone else looking at this thread, the cask will be tapped on Friday, November 21.

Cheers,

Dave

damn! where do you live? i would love to have some Edmund Fitgerald right now! one of my fav porters out there!

Eh, i dunno-the Two hearted was really not that good. The cask was filled on 9/16, so the beer had a bit of age on it. If it was dry-hopped with Centennials or something, then it would have been much better. What i got was a slightly oxidized two hearted with metalic notes and a somewhat abrasive palate, which i would have thought the cask would have mellowed out.

Pretty much what Eric said goes for me as well. It tasted like a fairly old bottle of Two Hearted that was showing signs of oxidation to me. It was good, but nowhere near what I'd hoped ~ and not as good as when I get it from a bottle considering how well shops around here turn that beer around. What was in the cask was 2 months old, generally bottles around here are around one month old. This tasted like a bottle with well more than two months worth of age as well.

IMO - the two hearted got better as you got towards the end. that last pour was MURKY and THICK, yet tasted wonderful!

nice meeting everyone again!

and i love that the wine bar is smoke free :D

it is now my new favorite bar

I thought the same thing about the taste getting better towards the end except I wasn't there for the last of it. Good to see everybody and to finally meet ScottyP sans bucket. Wish I could have stayed longer but the family duty called (then it was weird when this chick from my office showed up and Carl asked me if she was my wife! Not so much!).

Know matter whether you thought the beer was as good as you hoped or not, it's still cool that the boys at ole "33" put this thing on. It was very cool to see that many beer geeks take that place over, especially in the 5:30-6:30 hour!

Cheers to that! Didn't mean to come across too negative in my post. It was great seeing all those people there for the cask and the craft beer scene being so vibrant around here now. Plus getting the Bell's tulip for $2.50 was great.

Went to Square One afterward and had their Winter Day (wit with cardamom, star anise and orange peel) and Winter Night (dubbel with star anise, almonds and cherries). Both were quite interesting & worth trying.

Ya, I'm a big fan of the roasted robust porters. I got through everything I had planned except for kegging the beer! Well and Schlafly didn't have the vanilla coffee stout/porter (whichever it is) tapped yet, so I had more 08 imperial stout...
We did a comparison of the 06 and 08 Schlafly barleywines last night. The 06 still has a ton of bitter hop character. The 08 is very well balanced and smooth across the board. I enjoyed them both, which is good because the last bottle I had opened of the 06 barleywine wasn't going down too well. I still have about a case of it, so hopefully the rest come off that way.
Props to the two hearted cask party, that was fun!
