A couple of weeks ago the Three Troys and Amy and Doc came up with an idea for a fun activity. Omega had playing cards made with all of their yeast strains on most of the cards for CBC a couple of weeks ago. Mark from Omega gave me a deck. So here is the plan:

Anyone who wants to participate will draw a card and brew a 5 gallon batch with that yeast. But the malt bill will be set to 2 row and carapils, the club will pay for these two malts and the yeast. You can add one other grain if you want and use any hops on your dime. I'd like to keep the IBUs under 30. The goal of this is to let the yeast shine. Then we pick a date to brew and have a picnic after everyone's beer is ready and we have all of the beers there to sample. If you would like to participate and can't make it tomorrow night let me know and I'll pick a card for you.

UPDATE: I WILL BE DELIVERING YEAST AT THE AUGUST MEETING (8/8). THE GRAIN SHOULD BE HERE BY THEN TOO. Four yeast are not available. I drew in stock replacements and posted below. I did find a park with a pavilion on Saturday 9/30 at Black Forest Park in Lemay by Perennial. It was the only park I could get the last two weeks of Sept that wasn't out past 270. I hope that date works for most everyone

I'd be interested. I can't make the meeting tomorrow so you'll have to draw a card for me.

I am requesting that by the August meeting everyone that drew a card has there 2-Row and Cara-Pils quantities in to me. At the September meeting, I will have your grain and yeast for brewing. We will target the end of Sept for the picnic for everyone to bring their beer to share. If you have a Brett beer, your are more than welcome to brew it now and the club will reimburse you for your 2-row and carapils and the yeast.

If anyone with a Brett strain would like me to order their yeast and bring it to the August meeting let me know. You also have the option to buy your own and the club will reimburse you for it.

After looking at the calendar, I would like to get everyone's yeast order in and deliver them at the August 8th meeting. I'm making an grain order with Jeff and hope to have the grain and the yeast by the August meeting. Please look at the first post in the thread for yeast updates. Not all of the yeast are in stock. I will draw new yeast for those that are out of stock and post them.

I brewed mine on Friday. How much should we bring to the picnic? A growler or 2?

Whatever you think, but I think 2 would be good.

Was it 8 lbs of 2-row and 2 lbs of carapils? Also, what did we want the IBUs to be at. Right now my Altbier recipe is at 35 IBUs, but I can change that. - Ben

I believe it's 8 pounds 2 row and 1 pound carapils with ibu under 30. Brewed my saison on Friday. I added some wheat malt to it as well

35 IBU is fine and Robert was correct that the club provided 8# 2 row and 1# carapils. Feel free to do what you need to do to make your alt more traditional.

Brewed yesterday, finally. Troy M. came up with a pale ale recipe for those of us who got the West Coast Ale strains. I don't know if we all used it, but he and I did for sure. Looking forward to trying it!
