Cheers N Beers everyone. First off I would like to thank everyone for the kind words at Microfest about our beers. Secondly I figured I would address how and why it has taken so long to get HR up and running. I know it has been a year since it was announced that we were going to do this thing. A year ago I was personally approached by an investment group if I would be interested in running a brewery that they would raise the money for through angel investments (where a lot of people invest a small amount). It sounded like a very good opportunity. I put on tasting events for them in their big Ladue mansions and all of these lawyers, doctors, businessmen shook my hand and said lets get this going. So after two or three of those I left my job to work on HR full time. After 3 months of organizing an LLC, figuring out a location, working on getting equipment, etc all the sudden we couldn't get a return phone call or a meeting set up to get the money that we thought was collected into an accessible account to get things really rolling. About a month later we finally got a meeting with one of the heads of the group. They had to look myself and Justin in the eye and say sorry, we couldn't collect the money. Without any boo hoo side of the story we had 2 options, find a way to get this going, or scrap it. It took us almost a month to figure out how we were going to get HR up and running on what now was an absolute shoestring budget. We found a way but in doing so we had to go with laborers and construction guys at the cheapest end of the spectrum which inevitably leads to delays and missed timelines. Our building is old and was neglected for many years, a leaking roof, completely collapsed sewer line, broken windows, illegal and outdated electrical system, and rotted plaster walls all had to be replaced. The building was a complete build-out as well as there were no existing bathrooms, interior walls, etc. Being that our building is in Dogtown where it has been known to be very difficult to get a liquor license we needed to go about things the right way. I know it seems crazy but we asked permission to open up in their neighborhood. It takes time to earn peoples trust and our building literally has peoples homes not 10 feet behind it. So on top of just getting the liquor license petition signed and approved we also had to get a zoning variance. So every time I set a date that we missed it was truly showing that this is the first time I've ever done this before and my lack of knowledge on the timelines that the government and contractors take caused us to miss those dates again and again. The good news is that everything is now in place, our liquor license is at the state. As soon as they return it to us we will open our doors. I cant see it taking more than a couple weeks but I just have a hard time setting an exact date and us possibly missing it again. We really are sorry for the delays and we can't wait to see you guys and to pour some cold ones.

I know the road has been long and trying, but I have no doubt that once you guys get open you are going to get a hell of a lot of support from this community, the beer community as a whole, and the neighborhood. I for one can not wait.

Appreciate the candor guys.

Glad to hear you still ventured forward after the investors backed out (douches). Once your doors open, I will make sure to head down and enjoy a cold one (or more)!

I don't. I'd be so fat if all I had to do was walk 10 feet to get to a brewpub.

But I will be down there.

It sucks that you were jerked around but hopefully long term this is a better situation for you. Looking forward to checking the place out.

Never a good start but it seems like this will lead to an even better future. I know I'm looking forward to a few brews once HR opens the doors.

Jeff here... Need to start a new account for me.

Congrats. It can be a brutal process, but I firmly believe that you will be better off having done it all yourself in the long run. I can't wait to be a patron.

The state is tied up with liquor renewals right now and they will tell you that it could take weeks but it does not have to. If you desire, you can ask for a temporary approval letter that will allow you to operate before the final license is received (James and I just went through this process for 33). If you guys can be ready sooner, I wanted you to know that there is an operational choice that can allow it.

Cheers again.

Jeff

My office is near Oakland/Hampton, and Dogtown is one of my regular hangout spots. Can't wait for HR to open. Been following your #365albums on twitter and really dig your taste in music, which is similar to mine. Good beer, good music, and good people...sounds like a recipe for success.

Also, when every dollar you make goes into your pocket instead of the investors, you can sit back, smile, and enjoy the feeling of knowing that you are no one's b***ch!!!

I am excited to try some of your brews, as I wasn't able to make it to Microfest. I live in TG so I am excited to have a brew pub near me. Keep us updated on your opening date so we can make it!

We will not be able to fill growlers. There is a moratorium on packaged liquor in our ward. We're going to work with our Alderman to get an exception but I'm not sure how long that will take.

Good luck, any chances your brews will be available on tap around town? I rarely get down in that area.

Hey, on changing the moratorium, maybe if you add in some variances on franchise laws....... BA-ZING!
