This news was just announced today by Ska, they are making a Black IPA to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Toasters (legendary ska band, their music is the background music on Ska Brewing's website). They posted the label art and a little blurb about it on their Facebook page today.

http://www.facebook.com/#!/photo.php?fb ... 1243029138

"This first batch will be available Jan-Feb at the Toasters shows with commemorative pint glasses in AZ, NM, CO, MO, NE, and IL. Look for another batch on the second leg of their tour in the fall!"

I read that as it will only be available at the shows. It seems odd Ska would go through the trouble registering the beer with the state to only sell it at one show, maybe someone can confirm that with MoBev, but the show here in St. Louis is Friday, February 18th at the Firebird. I'm definitely there unless I'm out of town for work. Love the Toasters, love Ska beer, and love black IPAs. Sounds like a hell of a night.

Interesting note: I knew Shebeen was a Toaster's song, but I just looked it up and it's a term for an illicit bar/club where alcohol is sold without a license. Ska wouldn't announce this beer only to pull something like that, would they?

Also the label lists this as a 650ml. Odd size.

Maybe they're debuting it in each city/distributor's region the night of each show at its venue, with it hitting other bars and stores the next day or something?

I highly doubt it, especially if it's a Toasters song and they're registering it in states where they're distributed. I doubt a well-established brewer like Ska would want to take that risk. Interesting though. I guess only time will tell for sure.

That's essentially 22 oz. The tolerances in fill volumes are bigger than the 0.6 ml / .02 fl oz difference between an exact 22 oz and an exact 650 ml

I guess I'm just so used to seeing 750's that I didn't think about the conversion there. My bad.

I'll be wanting some for sure. I really like their modus hoperandi a whole lot. Got some last time I was in town and it was a big hit, should have got more than a 12 pack~!

Raleigh, Pat, and I are going. We are planning to go to Urban Chestnut before the concert.

Urban Chestnut before sounds like a plan. With all my travel lately I haven't made it there yet. Count me in.

I'll be there. Hitting UCBC before sounds like a good idea. I can't wait to try winged nut.

Just got the scoop on this. The beer is mad limited and doors are 7 so I'd get there by 8-8:30 if you want some. $12 per bomber and that includes a glass. Extra glasses are $5 per.

I saw on the front page this is pouring Saturday at Beer Lover's Anonymous, FYI.

Is this the same beer that The Stable is serving Saturday?

Pat, keep in mind that $12 includes the commemorative pint glass that you get to keep.

Also, just found out from the SO that HandleBar has a case of this coming in tomorrow and she is going to wait until the Toasters show is over to sell it. No idea on price there yet.

In that case I'll probably wait until after the show.

So for those of us who can't make the show, will this be at HandleBar just immediately after the show, or maybe tomorrow too?

They have a case (12 bottles). Considering it won't go on sale until late in the evening, decent chance it will be there tomorrow, but no guarantee. Other places around town will have it as well, it should start showing up today.

Met up with Paul, Jason, Pat, Kid & Princess for the show. We also went to Urban Chestnut beforehand.
They actually ran out of the two cases of Ska Shebeen 30 minutes before the Toasters started playing. The beer is good - if you are a malt guy then you'll really like it - if you are a hop guy then you'll be a tad disappointed like I was.

Agree with shep, it's a good beer, but not what I expected from a Black IPA. Got a couple of the pint glasses though, score there.

This hard to find beer is currently on-tap at Cicero's in the Loop. Had it last night, really tasty beer.

I was lucky enough to pick up a bomber of this at Friar Tuck's a couple weeks ago. Ska is near and dear to my heart since my in-laws live in Durango, CO - and I've been goin there for years.

Hopefully this hasn't been shared before, but thought everyone would get a kick out of this parody of Discovery Channel's Brewmasters featuring DFH... Sam also makes a couple cameos in this. Enjoy..
