Crazy Hopped Beers in Your Own Back Yard
January 10, 2008 1:35 pm Beer Love, Beer NewsIf you didn’t see it yesterday, Ian from the RFT linked to an article in the New York Times talking about some of the Imperial/Double/Crazy IPAs that some breweries are doing right now. While almost none of the beers listed on their taste test are available in St. Louis (with maybe the exception of the Great Divide beers) many of these are available just across the river in Illinois.
If you’ve never had the chance to try their choice for the best Imperial IPA, Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA, you need to make your way over the river quickly. It’s a wonderful beer that packs a wallop of in your face hops, but backs it up with a tasty malt backbone.

And don’t forget Goose Island Imperial IPA (limited!!)

I am with you all the way on the Great Divide. Hercules is one fine double IPA. The guys at the brewery are top notch/passionate. Plus the price on the bombers is great for a premium hop bomb. Do not pass this one up.
Great little page you have going here. Keep up the great work.

Great Divide is one of my favorite breweries. Nice folks and a stellar lineup of beer from the Oak Aged Yeti Imperial Stout to the Samuri (Unfiltered American Rice Ale) Yummy!

I don’t like the regular Yeti much. It’s so damn hoppy that it’s kind of like looking through a cloudy window when I drink it….like I can tell something really beautiful is out there, but it’s hard to quite make it out.
I hear the oak aged mellows that out a bit…do you find that to be the case? I haven’t picked it up yet, because I was so enthralled with the regular one.

Definitely, Bill. Also, Yeti cellars very well. Buy a couple bottles and forget about them until winter ‘09 or ‘10 and the hops should be long gone by then.

[…] Mike points out, you can get the 90min IPA just across the river, and I can personally vouch for having bought it […]
