SOCIETE_logo-web_biggerPerennial Artisan Ales produces some outstanding examples of traditional styles, but they’re also quite well-known for their more unique experiments.

While owners Phil and Emily Wymore have enjoyed seeing tremendous growth with their year-round creations, the heart of Perennial was always about producing those one-off, barrel-aged beers. But barrel-aged beers have a cost and that cost is availability.

There is only so much room for beer that sits in barrels for months (or even years) at a time. Which means that only so many people can get their hands on these special creations. And while the parties to release these beers are fun, there are only so many one can do without problems cropping up.

Last year Perennial announced the Société du Chêne (Society of Oak) membership. This unique club offered up the ability to access some of these fantastic barrel-aged beers simply by having a membership to the club.  Perennial reached out to announce that they’re accepting new members for the 2016 Société du Chêne.

Because this membership will be a highly sought-after ticket, the 2016 memberships will be available via the Perennial Tasting Room beginning on Wednesday, September 14th at 4pm.

Each membership will be $300 (tax included) and will include:

  • One bottle of each of the first twelve barrel-aged beers to be released over the course of the next year.  This year, we are including a mix of wine, foeder and spirits barrel-aged beers (yes, even stouts)
  • a Société du Chêne glass
  • 10% discount on all on-premise purchases with valid membership ID (does not include bottles to go or merchandise)
  • Entry to one Members-Only party.  Details to be released at a later date. (Trust us—we’ll make it a good one)
  • The ability to purchase a one-bottle allocation of Abraxas, Sump & 17.
  • One bottle of each of the first twelve barrel-aged beers to be released over the course of the next year.  This year, we are including a mix of wine, foeder and spirits barrel-aged beers (yes, even stouts)

Now, for some of the rules and regulations for this club (because people love to find loopholes!):

  • One membership per person.
  • Each of these beers will be released at some time during the membership period. Perennial will release the beers when they feel that they are ready. For this reason, a release schedule will not be shared in advance.
  • Members will be have a two week window to pick up bottles as they become available and must be picked up by the member or his or her proxy. If the bottles are not claimed within the designated pickup time, the bottles will be forfeited. THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTIONS TO THIS POLICY.
  • If there are excess bottles available, (depending on the number) bottles will either be offered to members for purchase, sold on or off-premise in the Perennial Tasting Room.
  • In the event that that more than twelve barrel-aged beers mature during the membership period, members will also be guaranteed the ability to purchase an undetermined allocation of these beers as well.
  • Bottles must be picked up in the tasting room. Under no circumstances are they able to ship bottles.
  • Members may designate one trustee to pick up his or her bottles from the tasting room. Membership benefits do not apply to trustees.
  • 2017 Memberships will be offered first to 2016 members. Renewal is, of course, optional.

Sign-up Details:

  • Trustee information will be requested after sign-up period is complete.
  • Remaining memberships will be offered via a local signup on a first come, first serve basis in the Perennial Tasting Room on Wednesday, September 14th at 4pm.
  • Each member may pick up his or her membership card, glass and first bottle in the Perennial Tasting Room between Wednesday, September 21st and October 5th.
  • The first beer to be released on 9/21 to Société members will be Reverie, a Blended Strong Ale aged in Whiskey and Wine Barrels.

Any questions about the club should be sent to societe@perennialbeer.com. That will be your one-stop shop for answers.

Today, from 4PM to 6PM the Wine and Cheese Place in Clayton will hold its weekly Friday beer tasting in which they will be pouring: Straffe Hendrik Triple Ale Wild, Deschutes Down and Dirty IPA, Jolly Pumpkin IO Saison, Jolly Pumpkin Saison Z, Jolly Pumpkin /Anchorage Calabaza Boreal, Barley Briska Biere Blanche, De Glazen Toren Jan de Lichte, and Boulevard Rye-on-Rye X – Sazerac. STL Craft Beer WeekI’m sure Mike will have plenty more to say about this, but St. Louis Craft Beer Week is fast approaching. The official dates are July 29 – August 6 (so Craft Beer Week + 1 Day).

The main purpose of this heads up is that the schedule is filling in rather nicely, with 115 events on the books so far and more to come. Check out the events as they’re created on Facebook or visit the official STL Craft Beer Week website http://stlbeerweek.com/. You can also follow the twitter account @stlbeerweek for #STLCBW updates.

If you can’t find anything on the list of events that suits you, then maybe you shouldn’t be into beer anymore.
