mce_beer4waterfinal-20160921-131809125It takes a lot of water to make beer. Way more water than you’d ever imagine. We’re very lucky in Missouri that we have an organization devoted to making sure our water stays clean. The Missouri Coalition for the Environment is throwing a fundraising beer festival this Sunday, from 2pm-5pm called Beer 4 Water.

Thanks to the MCE, I have two tickets to give away for this event.

We’ll make this an easy contest, just email contest@stlhops.com with Beer4Water as the subject. I’ll pick two winners on Friday, October 7th at 9AM. A couple of quick notes:

  • If you’ve won something from STL Hops in the past 6 months, please be cool and let someone else enter.
  • You must be 21 or older to enter.
  • No multiple entries.

If you don’t win this one, don’t worry I will be holding more contests like this in the future, so you’ll have another chance then. Good luck! Tickets for this event are still available as well!

edgewild-logoIs it just me or does there seem like there are less beer dinners?  And I mean that in a good way.  I remember seeing a beer dinner pop up almost every other week.  It just didn’t seem sustainable.

Personally, I prefer seeing quality over quantity and that’s what Edgewild Bistro & Tap has done by teaming up with Stone Brewing to put on a killer dinner next Wednesday, September 14th.

Beginning at 6PM you’ll get four courses paired with, wait for it, eleven beers!  And not just any beers, these are cream of the crop:

Duck & Bison Albondigas
Duck and bison meat balls with crispy pancetta, veal demi glace, and goat cheese fritters
Paired with Stone IPA, Stone Delicious IPA, RuinTen

Mushroom Stuffed Summer Squash
Roasted summer squash stuffed with garlic-rosemary sautéed mushrooms and lemon wilted arugula, finished with sage oil and pepita puree
Paired with Saison du Buff & Woot Stout

Snapper en Papillote
American red snapper over kaffir lime basmati rice pilaf with rainbow carrots and red bell peppers topped with orange-harissa butter
Paired with Who You Callin’ Wussie & Citricado

Roasted Strip Loin
Salt & black pepper crusted strip loin, red potato latkes, broccolini, and sweet corn-scallion hollandaise
Paired with Arrogant Bastard & Bourbon Barrel Aged Arrogant Bastard

Caramel Toffee Cheese Cake
Rich Tahitian vanilla bean cheese cake topped with toffee caramel over oatmeal-graham crust
Paired with Mocha IPA & Bitter Chocolate Oatmeal Stout

The price of the dinner is $55 per person or $100 per couple and a few reservations still remain. You can make reservations by calling (314) 548-2222.

Do you know what’s a wonder of the modern age?  Air conditioning. Why am I waxing on about modern conveniences on a beer blog?  Because I hear too many people talk about not wanting stouts during the summer.

I’m not advocating drinking a 13% beer after mowing the grass (though, there isn’t anything wrong with that.)  But, there is no reason not to enjoy some big beer after work in the comfort of your temperature-controlled home.

Do you know who has air conditioning and awesome beer?  The International Tap House in Central West End. While their beer selection is awesome all of the time, it’s extra awesome this Saturday, September 10th beginning at 2PM when they hold their Nightmare WAY Before Christmas event.

This event features some of the biggest and baddest beers in St. Louis all at one time.  Take a look at the list:

2016-nightmare-cwe

MBSL_120461_Ciceros_FirestoneWalkerPatience and will-power.  If you plan on cellaring beer, you need to have both of these items in spades. It’s difficult to see that beer just sitting there and not want to drink it.

Luckily for you, Firestone Walker and Cicero’s have done the hard work for you. This Saturday, September 10th, is Vintage Series Night at Cicero’s.

Starting at 6pm, you’ll be able to enjoy the following beers:

Draft

  • Sucuba 2016
  • Helldorado 2015
  • Stickee Monkee 2016
  • Velvet Merkin 2015

Bottles

  • Stickee Monkee 2015
  • Helldorado 2015
  • Parabola 2016
  • XIX Nineteenth Anniversary Ale

There will also be a raffle for Firestone schwag beginning at 8pm. Don’t try and cellar this stuff yourself, let the pros handle it for you at Cicero’s.

STL Craft Beer WeekToday begins the 8th annual St. Louis Craft Beer Week!  This is a big year for us with some big changes. The first of which is our awesome new logo from Tim Bottchen, big thanks to Tim for that!  The other big change is our brand new website thanks to Propaganda3.  Hopefully this new website will make your STLCBW easier to navigate and find new events!

We have over 150 events taking place this year making this the biggest STLCBW so far. What do we need from you? We need you to go out and make these events successful.  Over the next 9 days, I’m going to detail each days events. Do your part and get out and make these events a success.

Just a couple of things to mention.  Thanks to the folks at Breckenridge Brewery, we have an Untappd badge again this year, because we all love badges. Also thanks to our friends Baileys’ Restaurants and the St. Louis Brewers’ Guild for being the presenting sponsors of STLCBW. We couldn’t have done this without all of the help from our sponsors.

Also, make sure to use the #STLCBW hashtag for all of your social media-ing during the event.

Without further ado, here are the final Friday and Saturday events, be sure to check out stlbeerweek.com for more details!

2ndshiftlogoIsn’t fun to be a VIP? Any time you get that inside scoop or special access, you feel like a rock star.  2nd Shift Brewing is helping you feel like an insider as we’re doing a very special sneak preview of the new location tomorrow, June 9th starting at 6PM.

This isn’t going to be just any sneak preview, it’s going to be a party. Not only will you be able to view the new space, but it’s going to be a bottle release (more on that in a bit), we’re going to have beers on draught, and the Mission Taco Truck will be there to fill your belly.

As far as the bottle release goes, this will be your first opportunity to purchase the newest fruited version of Katy, Apricot Katy. You’ll also have the chance to purchase Annabelle, which I believe (and I don’t say this lightly) Steve Crider’s finest funky beer to date.  The newest version of Unicorn Killer will also be available for purchase as well.

If that wasn’t enough, we’ll have a killer line-up of beers on draught as well:

  • Brewcocky
  • Katy
  • Chaotic Insecure Delusions
  • Unicorn Killer
  • Hibiscus Wit
  • Art of Neurosis
  • Chateau la Douchebag
  • Blackberry Katy

So, we invite you out for this very special event.  We can’t wait to share our new home with you and this is just the first opportunity to do so.
