Bear Republic Coming to Missouri
June 16, 2008 9:53 am Beer NewsIn case you missed it over at the BeerAdvocate forums, Bear Republic will be arriving in St. Louis in early July thanks to MoBev. Bear Republic has been available in Illinois for quite some time, but you’ll finally be able to purchase it in both states which makes everyone’s shopping that much easier. For those unfamiliar with Bear Republic, their most famous beer may be the Racer 5 IPA, here’s their description from their website:
This is a hoppy IPA. Did I say hops? Your brewer is a hop head! This is a full bodied beer using American grains. The goal was to create a base for showing off the unique floral qualities of two Pacific Northwest hops, Columbus and Cascade. Columbus is a new hybrid High Alpha Acid hop used mostly for bittering, but used heavily as an aromatic in this strong brew. Cascade is the balance that ties the malt and bittering hops together. It is a true specialty ale and is our brewer’s statement on this style. 2004 L.A. Commercial Brewing Competition, Silver Medal Winner; 2004 World Beer Cup, Silver Medal Winner; 2001 Real Ale Festival, San Diego, Gold Medal Winner; 2001 Real Ale Festival, Chicago, Gold Medal Winner; 1999 Great Amercian Beer Festival, Gold Medal Winner - og 1.070, ABV 7.0%, IBU 69. California State Fair Bronze Medal, 1997 Beerfest Invitational.
Mmmmm, IPAs.

This is awesome news!!! Racer 5 is great, and I can’t wait to try Hop Rod Rye.

I’ve never seen it in Illinois either, but I think it is distributed in the Chicago (and surrounding) areas.

Anyone know if this (or Anderson Valley) are draft as well as bottles? My kegerator wants to know.
Bear Republic has been at Corral for years, and I think Andrew at Bon Vivant usually has some too. I’d call either place before making the trek.

Yeah, I was just in Bon Vivant Friday and he’d just sold out of Hop Rod Rye and Racer 5 the day before (which was what I was looking for). He had several bottles of the Bear Stout, but said his distributor is currently out as well.

Best news I’ve heard all day. Im looking forward to being able to get hop rod rye close to home. Hopefully we get the Brown which I haven’t seen in IL.

The Bear Stout is very good. The Brown Tribute is also good - and I usually don’t like Browns. This is one of the best priced CA breweries. If only Lagunitas would come here too.

mmm.. Red Rocket
Dylan at 33 said first of July, he’ll have some. He didn’t know about draught yet.

Thanks, Jeff. Have no fear about me bugging Dylan about kegs.

Mo Bev had a beer tasting last Thursday, and we got a chance to try the Bear Republic. They are delicious. So the rumor is true. We will see them soon!!!!!

This is great news, Hop Rod Rye is one of the best beers I’ve had. For those who haven’t had it you will not be disappointed. Its a very big red ale, 8% ABV. Its almost perfectly balanced, even my wife who is not usually into these type of beers loved it.

I should correct my comment about Hop Rod Rye, its actually classified as a double IPA not a red ale. It does however have a quite red appearance to me.
