Funny also that this post generated more responses than any other post on the site. Some positive some negative. A healthy debate none the less.

I've been to Ralph's in CA and it's just as good as Dierberg's if not better.

I shop almost every week at Dierberg's and as this is a website devoted to the beer scene in St. Louis, I think I have every right to be critical about that one topic. That would be like wandering onto a baseball site and saying that someone shouldn't be critical about the DH. That's silly.

OK already... enough Dierberg's-bashing about beer (or anything else)! Unfortunately this response will probably not be seen.

However, I am on their website today in preparation to order some Christmas items that I have purchased from them for years, and will be visiting St. Louis soon to pick-up these items.

We relocated to the Memphis area earlier this year and discovered NOTHING like a Dierberg's here. Oh yeah, there are a few Schnuck's and a lot of Kroger stores, but EXTREMELY disappointing to say the least. Tennessee's arcane liquor laws combined with local grocers' inept beer offerings (in addition to food offerings) are almost laughable.

After living in several areas of the country, you should appreciate that Dierberg's provides one of the most complete and robust offerings of products of any grocery chain in the country. Considering that they are locally owned and their focus is on the St. Louis market, they are number one there and outstanding, in general. Shame on you for isolating one category (beer...?) and being ctitical of that. The remaining 99% of their product mix is second to none!

I hope someone reads this, then makes an honest comparison by visiting another city and attempting to replicate Dierberg's. It will not be possible to do!

I think Dan D came pretty close. The Schnuck's in Richmond Heights has a decent selections and usually has some good sale prices--unlike Friar Tucks,

If you consider selection more important when choosing what's "best," I would say either TWCP or Starrs.

Late to the game here... I agree that the Dierbergs on Eager is pretty good, but still could have a far better selection. So where is the best place to buy beer in St Louis? If you were to say best selection at the most reasonable price? What is the mecca of beer stores around here?

Today I noticed the Schnuck's at Big Bend and Clayton carries Left Hand. I didn't have time to really look around, but they also had Smokestack beers.

On another note- My Loughborough Schnuck's has a lousy beer selection, and I haven't been to a Dierberg's in years. Macklind Avenue Deli wins for me on the South side.
