Without a doubt, St. Louis has seen quite a renascence in food. We in the beer community have seen the changes as more and more people seek out craft offerings and more and more breweries have opened up. But we’ve also seen more and more amazing chefs come into the area and rock our world.
4 Hands Brewing owner Kevin Lemp not only has seen the changes, but has also been on the front line of the revolution. To help celebrate St. Louis’s culinary re-birth, he decided to collaborate with four James Beard Award semi-finalist chefs and also a James Beard Best New Restaurant nominee to create a new beer.
Named “Foundation” this beer was the design of Gerard Craft (Niche, Brasserie, Taste), Josh Galiano (formerly of Monarch), Kevin Nashan (Sidney Street Cafe), Kevin Willman (Farmhaus) and the team at Salt. Using fresh ginger, local lemon balm (out of Kevin Lemp’s backyard), local basil, and organic peach juice, the team of chefs and 4 Hands will create a blonde beer based on a list of seasonal ingredients used by all of the chefs.
The label (which is still being designed) will be based on the five pointed star seen above. Each point of the star representing each of the teams that went into the design of this beer. Look for Foundation to be available at each of the restaurants and at the 4 Hands tasting room later this fall.
