MBSL_117556_ITap_Firestone_R1Sad that you missed out on Firestone Walker Invitational Beer Festival? I can’t say I blame you, it’s one of the best beer festivals I’ve been to and one of the reasons is to try some of the delicious Barrelworks Wild Ales.

Well, you may not be able to go out to Paso Robles, but the International Tap House and Firestone Walker are bringing a little of the FWIBF to you.  This Sunday, February 21st, starting at 2PM iTAP CWE will be tapping four very special funky beers for you to sip on.

The line-up includes:

  • 2015 Sour Opal
  • 2015 Agrestic
  • 2015 and 2016 Bretta Weisse

And funky beer needs funky music, so iTAP’s on Chuck Parson will be playing some funktastic jams to keep you in the mood.

WINTERWARMER (3) (1)Maybe it’s just the mere mention of warming up the winter from Randall’s Fairview Heights that we’re blessed with 70° temperatures this weekend. Whatever the reason, I’m not complaining.

This Friday, February 19th, from 7pm-10pm Randall’s FVH will be throwing their Winter Warmer Festival with all of the proceeds benefiting Stray Rescue St. Louis. Tickets are $10 each (with purchase of wish list item) or $20 with no item purchase.

You’ll be able to sample some awesome beers including Bourbon County Stout, Buffalo Sweat, Dark Horse’s Plead the 5th and Bell’s Hopslam.  Great beers, great weather, and a great cause, maybe we can convince Randall’s to hold this festival every weekend until May!

50 shaded llywIf you love puns or wordplay, you should love the craft beer industry. I can’t think of a single larger conglomeration of this literary technique than in this fantastic community.

On that note, Shmaltz Brewing is putting on a very special event, tomorrow night at Llywelyn’s Pub in Soulard. Starting at 6PM, you’ll have your first opportunity to enjoy all three of the MANNAge Trois IPA variants in an event they’re calling 50 Shades of Grain.

For the first time in Missouri, you’ll be able to try on tap:

  • Hop Manna IPA – our signature single IPA with West Coast Hop Editions and a pronounced malty backbone
  • Hop Mamma IPA – This is a slightly lower ABV IPA with Peach, Apricot, and a slight hint of Habanero.
  • Hop Mania IPA – A slightly higher ABV version of Hop Manna brewed with even more hops!

Be a slave to your desire for beer and head your way out to Llywelyn’s, slap down some money, and choke down some delicious beer.  (Even I am not immune to wordplay!)

GlobalBrew_MainLogo_RGBReal talk for a second. This has been a weird-ass winter. When it’s not been unseasonably warm, it’s been unseasonably cold.  And right now it’s definitely unseasonably cold.  Not a fan.

Do you know what I am a fan of? You guessed it! PUGS!  Oh, and beer. Especially some big, dark beers in the winter.  Global Brew Tap House in Rock Hill knows we’re looking to keep this winter and plan on helping.

This Friday, February 12th, GBRH is throwing their inaugural Winter Warmer beer event. They’re busting out a bunch of big beers to help warm your cockles.  Here’s a look at the list:

  • Perennial – Abraxas
  • 4Hands – Madagascar
  • UCBC – Wolpertinger
  • Founders – Project Pam
  • Boulevard – 2014 Rye on Rye
  • Odell – Russian Pirate
  • Stone – Xocoveza
  • Evil Twin – Imperial Biscotti Break Natale

All beers get tapped at 1PM and will be on until they blow. Head out and warm up with GBRH’s Winter Warmer this Friday.

three-kings-delivery-and-cateringStory time.  I don’t typically fanboy out when meeting brewers because, they’re just that– brewers. They’re super cool people (for the most part) but they’re still dudes that brew beer.

Except this one time.

Way back in 2010 I got a chance to visit the Craft Brewers Conference in Chicago. I had a chance to visit this party put on by Lauren Salazar from New Belgium and that’s when my fanboy experience happened. Lauren introduced me to Matt Brynildson, brewmaster at Firestone Walker Brewing Company.

At the time I was obsessed with Union Jack (and frankly, I still am, that beer is off the chain) and I believe the first thing I said to Matt was, “HOLY SHIT, YOU’RE MATT BRYNILDSON!”  I’ve never done this before when meeting a brewer and haven’t done it since.

What does this story have to do with anything?  Well, other than making me look like an idiot, it’s your chance to geek out over some Firestone Walker beers this Thursday, February 11th starting at 6PM at Three Kings Public House in the Loop.

This Tap Tour features some of your old favorites like Easy Jack, DBA, and Union Jack and also some fun choices like Nitro Merlin Milk Stout, 19th Anniversary, and Stickee Monkee. John Kellerman from Firestone will be on hand with a little bit of swag to giveaway as well.

Geek out over some Firestone Walker tomorrow night at Three Kings.

FestoftheWildWere you looking to get wild this weekend without having to brave Soulard?  Maybe it’s just a bit of wild ale you’re searching out instead?

Then maybe you need to head out to Craft Beer Cellar in Clayton this Saturday, February 6th for their first Fest of the Wild event.  Running from 12PM to 6PM, you’ll have an opportunity to sample a ton of wild ales throughout the day.  Just some of the beers CBC will be tapping include:

  • Tilquin Gueuze
  • Stillwater / Westbrook Gose Gone Wild
  • Firestone Walker Bretta Weisse
  • Firestone Walker Agrestic
  • 4 Hands Cuvee Ange
  • Crooked Stave Surette
  • Grimm Purple Prose
  • New Belgium Le Terrioir

And to make sure that this event is not only delicious but educational, every 30 minutes CBC will be providing some educational presentations from breweries such as Perennial Artisan Ales and some of CBC’s own Certified Cicerones®.

So get out and get wild this Saturday at CBC.

theogBeer and trivia. These are two things I love. You know another thing that I love? That we now have a few groups in St. Louis promoting women and beer.

One of those groups is the OG: St. Louis Women’s Craft Beer Collective. To celebrate their first anniversary they’re throwing a Beer Trivia Fundraiser this Friday, February 5th at the Sqwires Annex.

Their non-profit club is using the event to raise some funds to help further their cause and have put together a trivia night to test your beer knowledge and to have a bit of fun as well. Beginning at 7PM, your team of four (or less, if you’re feeling super-smart) will have five rounds of beer-themed trivia to enjoy.

The cost is $100 per table which will include appetizers, door prizes, and of course the trivia. There will be prizes for each round and a grand prize for the team with the highest score. You can sign up for this fun event via Brown Paper Tickets. Don’t miss out!
