label_sumpIt takes a balanced hand to create beers with special adjuncts. Too little and you can’t even enjoy a specialty beer, too much and it become overwhelming. It’s also equally important to pick the right ingredients, finding that harmony between the base beer and the adjuncts is crucial. If you have any interest in how these beers are created, it’s always nice to learn from the experts.

If learning more about this very special talent the you’ll need to head out to Dressel’s Pub on Tuesday, February 2nd for a Perennial Sump Blending Event. Starting at 7PM you’ll have a chance to talk to two experts in the field of blending beer and coffee, co-owner of Perennial Artisan Ales Phil Wymore and owner of Sump Coffee Scott Carey.

You’ll have your chance to blend from the following beers:

  • Perennial Imperial Stout (base beer)
  • Perennial Blue Label Maman
  • Perennial Abraxas
  • Perennial Sump

Tickets for this very limited event at $50 each and include a guided beer and coffee blended session with beer flights and appetizers.  You can make your reservations by calling 314-631-1060 or emailing mary@dresselspublichouse.com.

elijahpsLearning is good. Learning about beer is even better. While drinking beer is definitely fun, I find that I enjoy something on a deeper level when I know more about it.

iTAP-Mardigras16-Draft3While a few among us are not interested in large gatherings of people, mostly it’s because we can’t find craft beer at these events. I can deal with the hassle of parking, lines, and general goofballery if I can enjoy some tasty craft beer.

Mardi Gras poses extra problems in that trying to find a clean restroom can also be a bit of a hassle. If you’re lucky, you have a friend that lives in Soulard that will kindly let you crash their bathroom. But many of us are not that lucky.

If you’re looking to attend this year’s Mardi Gras and are looking for both a warm bathroom and craft beer then you may want to check out this deal from the International Tap House in Soulard.

iTAP is throwing a VIP Mardi Gras Party. Beginning at 11AM on February 6th, you’ll get unlimited draft pours, food provided by Epic Pizza, and a warm place to pee. You’ll be provided a wrist band which will get you in and out of iTAP all the way until 6PM. All of this for the cost of $100 per person.

If this sounds like your way to enjoy a baller Mardi Gras, a limited number of tickets are available via Brown Paper Tickets.

Mango-HOP-anero LabelDid you know that as we get older, our sense of tastes decreases? It’s why some of us pick up the love of spicy foods later in life. We need a little bit of kick to put our taste buds on alert.

I love beer and I also love some hot sauce, so Mission Taco Joint and 4 Hands Brewing Co. did the obvious thing and put them both together.  Starting today (National Hot Sauce Day, as I’m sure you’re fully aware) both Mission Taco location you’ll have your first chance to buy the Mango-HOP-anero hot sauce.

Here’s the description from MTJ:

This year we collaborated with 4Hands Brewery and made a special release pepper sauce called Mango-HOP-anero, using 4Hands Incarnation IPA (formerly Resurrection IPA). The pepper sauce brings subtle sweet notes from the mango, a good amount of heat from the habanero, and tropical scents from the mosaic hops of the beer.

So, stop by Mission Taco and enjoy some tasty tacos (or burritos) and also purchase a bottle of Mango-HOP-anero to-go for $7.
