Urban Chestnut Brewing Company has had a crazy five years since they opened their doors in 2011. Has any other local brewery has quite the explosion that UCBC has had?

Since their opening we’ve seen them grow from their beautiful space in midtown to an enormous and gorgeous in the Grove. We’ve seen their tap handles pop up all over town and now bottled beer hit the shelves.

We’ve seen them grow from selling beer just in the St. Louis area to expanding their footprint to Kansas City, southern Illinois, and even Indianapolis.  And if that wasn’t enough, they even expanded to Europe when they purchased a small brewery in co-owner and brewmaster Florian Kuplent’s homeland of Bavaria.

It’s eye-popping to see how much they’ve grown.  But they’re still a local brewery at heart.  To celebrate this enormous success UCBC is throwing their 5th annual Wolpertinger festival on Sunday, January 24th from 1-5PM at their Grove Brewery and Bierhall.

$35 (or $40 day of) will get you a chance to sample beers from over 30 breweries including special guest Deschutes Brewery out of Bend, Oregon. Come out and celebrate all of UCBC’s success with a great festival!

Oh and if you’re wondering what a wolpertinger is, other than being a fantastic beer festival, UCBC has provided this colorful description here:

For you newbies (or those that might need a refresher) … a wolpertinger is a small (or large depending on your perspective), primarily nocturnal mammal that inhabits the alpine forests of Bavaria. He’s quite rare, but we annually work with our hop growers in Hallertau to ‘import’ one of the little fellas for the special occasion. Mostly nocturnal, our “Wolpie” makes his grand appearance at the back end of the festival, which also coincides with our very limited release of his namesake UCBC beer.  Wolpie will also be honoring what he recognizes as the “best-costumed Wolpertingers” who will be rewarded!

It’s easy to be reflective during this time of the year.  The holidays allow us to not only look back on the year that was but look forward to the year ahead.  It also gives a good opportunity to share great times with friends and family alike.

The International Tap House knows how to put on a good time.  They’ve been doing it for almost seven years now. To celebrate New Years Eve, iTAP in the Central West End is throwing their first NYE event.

On Thursday, December 31st from 8PM to 1AM iTAP will be hosting an all-inclusive NYE party.  For $75 per person you’ll enjoy all 61 draft beers and wine all night long (bottled beer available for purchase.)  They’re also include food (while supplies last), music and a special toast to ring in the new year.

You can purchase tickets now here. Keep the champagne at home and ring in the new year with beer at iTAP CWE.

logo-bridge-wpThere are certain breweries and beers that it’s difficult to hide my excitement about. For instance, when Sierra Nevada Celebration comes out, I usually wax poetic about it.

Another one of those breweries that has got me pretty jazzed is Ballast Point out of San Diego. When deciding upon beers to be served at our wedding, I was this close to picking up a keg of Grapefruit Sculpin for a delicious IPA option (it ended up losing out to another San Diego brewery, Alesmith IPA.)

Well, if you’ve been paying attention to social media you know that starting today BP is now available in STL. To celebrate this event, Bridge Tap House is hosting a Ballast Point Launch Party next Wednesday, December 23rd.

Starting at 5PM you’ll have your chance to enjoy the original Sculpin, the Grapefruit Sculpin, and Dorado Double IPA. Head out to the Bridge tonight because t’s time to get excited about another great brewery in our area!

2ndshift-peachkaty-chateauLooking for that extra special gift for that beer lover in your life? Or maybe you’re just looking for a little special thanks to that Christmas bonus you’ve received?

Well, 2nd Shift Brewing is looking to help you spend that hard earned cash by providing you with a couple of cool beers to purchase. This Thursday, December 17th at 4PM you’ll be able to purchase two rare beers at the Perennial Artisan Ales tasting room.

2nd Shift will be releasing 750ml bottles of Peach Katy and Chateau La Douchebag. Each bottle will set you back $20 each. Quantities per person are to be determined. And to add a bit to the excitement, there will be draft of both beers available at 4PM as well.

This will be a very limited release and could possibly sell out fast, so don’t miss out on this very special release.

hibernationbearJudging by some of their furry beards and burly builds, you’d think a lot of craft beer fans wish deep down that they were actually bears. And let’s be honest, aren’t we all slightly jealous of our furry friends ability to nap throughout the winter?

Well, until they invite Hibernol, we’re all going to have to try the next best thing. Next Monday, December 14th, Baileys’ Range is throwing a Hibernation Celebration.

Starting at 6PM, Range will be putting on a bunch of big, dark beers that will definitely help you sleep well that night. Here’s the list:

And because it’s one of the things they’re kind of well known for, there will also be a a special beer-themed burger available to pair with your tasty beer.

Those that know me know that I don’t always have much (or any) Christmas spirit. December is not one of my favorite months. One of the things that annoys me the most is just how damned early it gets dark. It’s not much fun to wake up in the dark and come home from work in the dark.

But dark isn’t always bad.  Take for instance the iTAP Nightmare Before Christmas.  This Saturday, December 12th the International Tap House in Chesterfield will be putting on a bunch of big/rare beers and a bunch of dark beers to boot. Then next week, on December 19th, the Soulard location will be putting on a Nightmare of their own. Here’s a list of what to expect (as always, beers are subject to change):
