iTAP-Midsummer15-webDo you know what’s a wonder of the modern age?  Air conditioning. Why am I waxing on about modern conveniences on a beer blog?  Because I hear too many people talk about not wanting stouts during the summer.

I’m not advocating drinking a 13% beer after mowing the grass (though, there isn’t anything wrong with that.)  But, there is no reason not to enjoy some big beer after work in the comfort of your temperature-controlled home.

Do you know who has air conditioning and awesome beer?  The International Tap House in Central West End. While their beer selection is awesome all of the time, it’s extra awesome this Saturday, August 29th beginning at 2PM when they hold their Midsummer Nightmare event.

This event features some of the biggest and baddest beers in St. Louis all at one time.  Take a look at the list:

  • 4 Hands Volume 1
  • Deschutes Abyss
  • Evil Twin Even More Jesus
  • Evil Twin I Love You With All My Stout
  • Humboldt black Xantus
  • Sierra Nevada Narwhal
  • Founders KBS

And if you want to feel good all while drinking beer, iTAP will be collecting “Back to School Supplies” for Lift For Life. Bring in any the items listed below for a free commemorative glass:

ucbcAfter the sweltering weather we’ve endured over the past few weeks, we definitely deserve this respite. One way to celebrate this weather is by heading out to Urban Chestnut in Midtown for their third Blues & Que event for the summer.

From 12PM-6PM this Sunday, August 23rd, UCBC will be featuring delicious BBQ from Chef Andrew Fair and featuring music from the Down Home Blues Band from 1-5PM.  There will also be special fills of their .5L and 1L steins.

Go out and enjoy some awesome beer, awesome food, and awesome music this weekend at UCBC in Midtown.

The beautiful thing about taste is not everyone is going to agree. For instance, I can’t stand Citra. My nose and tongue just don’t enjoy that hop. Which leaves more for the rest of you. But I’m sure some of my favorite hops are someone else’s lease favorite.

Breweries play around with all kinds of different new hops to find that next hit. Oskar Blues goes one step further by producing very special batches of beer dry-hopped with four different types of hops and then use you as the guinea pigs!

They’ve created a pale ale and have dry-hopped it with Comet, HBC 472, Hop Head Farms Experimental 069, and Mandarina Bavaria.  Only one location in all of the St. Louis area was chosen to try these beers and Global Brew Tap House in Edwardsville was that lucky location.

Tomorrow at 5PM, Oskar Blues Jen Whitney will be on-hand to host this special sampling where you’ll be the judge. Jen will collect the votes which will then be submitted to the brewery to determine the overall winner.

If tasting beer makes me a lab rat, sign me up!

2009_05_16_1508It’s time to have another STL Hops Pinball Party! This year’s event will be taking place on September 12th from 1PM-5PM and will be hosted once again at CP Pinball in South Roxana, Illinois.

We will have two different ticket prices again this year, so here’s the run down:

The cost of the event is $20 per person which provides you with all the pinball you can play for 4 hours. If you’re looking for transportation to and from the event, we’ve rented a bus that will pick people up at Lafayette Park and return them after the event. This will cost you an extra $15.

Just Pinball: $20
Pinball + Bus Fare: $35

Seems like a pretty great deal for safe travel to and from the event.

We’re going to have a bunch of people bringing different beers to sample and you’re welcome to bring something you’ve been hording as well. I’m trying to line up some pizza, so I’ll have some info on that soon.

Tickets for this event are being sold through Brown Paper Tickets (click that link!). Only 55 tickets are being made available at this time, so I wouldn’t wait around to buy them. Be certain to check out some of the photos from Sauce Magazine from the original pinball event, it was pretty awesome.

Global Brew Tap House in O’Fallon will be holding their second All Day Fest tomorrow, Friday, August 14th from 1PM until close.  They’ll be featuring over 20 (?!) Founders Brewing beers on tap along with special tappings of KBS, Blushing Monk, and CBS.

Unfortunately, CBS is tickets only and tickets are sold out.  Fortunately, they do have a few extra pours that will be available after 10PM. They’ll also be featuring some casks, music, and a appearance from VIP brewer Diamond from Founders.

quincy-streetQuincy Street Bistro is making some of the best home-style cooking in St. Louis. 4 Hands Brewing is hand-crafting some of the best beers in St. Louis. So it only makes sense that they collaborate on putting together an awesome tap takeover.

Tomorrow, August 13th, beginning at 5PM, 4 Hands will be doing a tap takeover at Quincy Street Bistro. Not only will you have the delicious old guard like Single Speed and Divided Sky, but also some of the new kids on the block like Guava Session and Super Flare.

Here’s a look at the whole line-up:
