Archive for April, 2015

logo-bridge-wpI hope you have your drinking shoes on because as the weather is warming up, we’re seeing more and more events going on around town. The Bridge Tap House has not just one, but two killer events they’re putting on in the next two weeks.

Next Monday, April 27th, Bridge will be featuring a Deschutes Brewery tap takeover and hosting Deschutes master blender Anthony Stone. Starting at 5PM, Bridge will be featuring  Mirror Mirror 2014, Mirror Pond, Black Butte XXV, Obsidian Nitro Stout and Fresh Squeezed IPA.

Then on Thursday, May 7th, Bridge will be hosting a Founders Brewing tap takeover featuring the one, the only KBS.  The best part about this tap takeover is that it’s kind of a match off against big sister, little sister.  Bridge will be doing side-by-side pourings of Breakfast Stout/KBS, Rubeaus/Blushing Monk, Dirty Bastard/Backwoods Bastard (2014) and Old Curmudgeon.

Beer Fest 2015The Wine and Cheese Place in Clayton will be holding their ninth(!) annual Beerfest, on Saturday, May 9th. In celebration of the event, Paul Hayden has given us three pairs of tickets to giveaway to the sold out 12PM-1PM limited session.

Not only will you get to leisurely try a lot of great beer from all over the world, but you’ll also receive a commemorative Schlafly/TWCP tasting glass. Send an email to contest@stlhops.com with the subject of 2015 Beerfest, I’ll randomly pick three winners on Monday, April 27th at 9AM.  A couple of quick notes:

  • If you’ve won something from STL Hops in the past 6 months, please be cool and let someone else enter.
  • If you can’t attend, please don’t enter.
  • You must be 21 or older to enter.
  • No multiple entries.

Be sure to check out the brewery list on the TWCP blog, this is a hell of a tasting and something you just don’t want to miss! Thanks to Paul for the tickets!

I love breakfast the same way Ron Swanson loves dark-haired women… and breakfast.  So if you’re like me you’re going to want to head out to Dressel’s Public House this Sunday, April 26th because beginning at 10AM they’re going to be featuring brunch and a Perennial Artisan Ales tap takeover.

Check out the poster below for all of the deets:

globalbrew-springbeerfestivalUnlike the past few years, I don’t think any of us can argue we haven’t gotten a proper spring. It certainly feels like spring now and I love it. What better way to celebrate this fantastic season than by enjoying the weather and the beer outside.

This Saturday, April 25th, Global Tap House in Edwardsville will be celebrating spring by hosting the Edwardsville Spring Beer Festival. Running from 11AM to 8PM, this festival will feature over 20 different craft breweries and a portion of the proceeds will be used for the City of Edwardsville: A Better Place to Play project.

Here’s a rundown of some of the breweries that will be participating:

  • Goose Island
  • Tallgrass – including casks
  • Destihl
  • Founders
  • Schlafly
  • Civil Life
  • Scratch
  • Ballast Point – including Grapefruit Sculpin
  • Oskar Blues
  • Stone – Mutt Brown, the first brown ale from the brewery.

There will be live music throughout the day and some great food from restaurants like Cleveland-Heath and 1818 Chophouse. Don’t miss out on this wonderful east-side experience.

Today, from 4PM to 6PM the Wine and Cheese Place in Clayton will hold its weekly Friday beer tasting in which they will be pouring: Cathedral Square Repent Rye, Cathedral Square Holy Moly Stout, Cathedral Square Belgian White, and Cathedral Square Belgian Abbey Ale. Additional information can be found at their blog.

Craft Beer Cellar in Clayton continues its Friday Night Flight of the Week tonight featuring Jolly Pumpkin Biere de Mars, Excel Sugarfire Smoked Lager, Brasserie Bailleux Cuvée Des Jonquilles, Mikkeller Simcoe IPA, and North Peak Archangel. $12 gets you five 4oz pours of these beers.

Also on Wednesday, the Naked Vine holds a beer tasting from 5-7PM. This tasting will give you a chance to try some of Naked Vine’s offerings and is absolutely free. Check out their Twitter feed for more updates.

Once again, if you’re a retail shop, bar, restaurant, brewery or distributor and want me to list your tasting, make sure to email me at mike@stlhops.com.

Odell_Brewing_Company_logoWe all have our own beer-related pet peeves.  For those that know me closely, they know that my A #1 pet peeve is how people continually screw up Odell Brewing Company. O’dell, O’Dells, etc. The owner’s name is Doug Odell.  No apostrophe.

Whew, I feel better.

Anyway, I don’t think people realize how lucky we are to have Odell Brewing. Personally, they’re one of my favorite breweries and they’re currently only available in 11 states.

Odell has a whole crew of people in town and they’ve put together a bunch of events all next week to get the word out about Odell.  Here’s a look at the line-up:

It’s like Mr. Rogers once said, “Neighbors kick ass.*” And without a doubt, 4 Hands Brewing Company is always trying to be a good neighbor.  What better way to be a good neighbor than a collaboration of food and beer?

Next Wednesday, April 22nd, 4 Hands Brewing Company will be hosting a beer dinner with their lovely neighbor Brewhouse at the Hyatt Regency. The meal will feature six courses paired up with six different 4 Hands beers.

Dinner begins at 5:30PM and will set you back $60 per person. You can make reservations by calling 314-259-3261. Peek at the menu below:
