sundayfunkdayA lot of people talk about trends in craft beer. One of those trends are funky and sour beers. But let’s be honest, funky beers aren’t a trend, they’re the original beers.

Before the days of stainless steel and caustic, beers were aged in wood and inoculated in the open air. These beers were funky from the get-go. This isn’t a trend, it’s revisiting how beer used to be made.

To celebrate these funky beers, the International Tap House in Soulard is throwing a Sunday Funkfest this Sunday, April 27th beginning at 1PM. Here’s the line-up of beers:

Odell Friek
4 Hands Cuvee Diable
Oude Tilquin Gueze
Cantillon Mamouche
Monks Cafe
Jolly Pumpkin La Roja
Jolly Pumpkin Calabaza Blanca

And for those of you that like funky music along with your funky beers, there will be funk played from 2PM-4PM. Celebrate the original beers this Sunday at iTAP.

springbeerfestivalIt certainly feels like spring now and I love it. What better way to celebrate this fantastic season than by enjoying the weather and the beer outside.

This Saturday, April 26th, Global Tap House in Edwardsville will be celebrating spring by hosting the Edwardsville Spring Beer Festival. Running from 11AM to 7PM, this festival will feature over 20 different craft breweries and a portion of the proceeds will be used to send underprivileged Boy Scouts, who are part of the local Lewis & Clark council, to camp this summer.

Here’s a rundown of some of the breweries that will be participating:

  • Goose Island Beer Co.
  • Dogfish Head
  • Civil Life
  • Boulevard Brewing Co.
  • Left Hand Brewing
  • 4 Hands Brewing
  • Schlafly Beer
  • Sierra Nevada
  • Victory Brewing
  • Urban Chestnut Brewing

There will be live music throughout the day and some great food from restaurants like Cleveland-Heath and Bigelo’s Bistro. Don’t miss out on this wonderful east side experience.
