repealbug127.gif Because it’s consistently one of the most exciting and fun beer festivals in the area, my guess is that the Repeal of Prohibition festival will sell out. So if you’re looking for a chance to pick up some tickets to this wonderful outdoor event well then this may be your best shot.

Thanks to the folks from Schlafly, I have four tickets to give away for the 2014 Repeal of Prohibition.

We’ll make this an easy contest, just email contest@stlhops.com with Repeal of Prohibition as the subject. I’ll pick two winners Thursday, April 3rd at 9AM. A couple of quick notes:

  • If you’ve won something from STL Hops in the past 6 months, please be cool and let someone else enter.
  • You must be 21 or older to enter.
  • No multiple entries.

If you don’t win this one, don’t worry I will be holding more contests like this in the future, so you’ll have another chance then. Good luck!

STLHops_ShadedRound 2 featured more than a few match-ups of breweries facing off against each other, let’s see how a few of these match-ups fared. (Click here for all the Round 2 results)

Last year’s champion 2nd Shift Art of Neurosis is still going strong and took down the 2011 & 2012 champion Schlafly AIPA.  Schlafly Pumpkin took out Urban Chestnut Schnickelfritz with a 62.5% to 37.5% win.  And because I always love to see a new challenger in the mix, I’m happy to report that Charleville Box of Chocolates moved on to round 4 with a 56.2% to 43.8% win against Perennial Hommelbier.

Round 4 provides some tough match-ups as 2nd Shift Katy goes up against up-start Charleville Box of Chocolates and Schlafly Pumpkin goes up against Urban Chestnut Zwickle.

These match-ups run through Thursday, so go out and vote for your favorites.

bobLet me tell you, putting on a beer dinner ain’t easy. Putting on my first one was pretty nerve-racking. From the pairings, to the serving, to the putting butts into the seats, there is a lot that goes on. So, I’m always will to help out a place putting on their first dinner.

Next Monday, March 31st, beginning at 7PM, Broadway Oyster Bar is putting on their first beer dinner featuring four different beers from Abita Brewing.  These four beers and four different courses will cost you $38.99.  If you’d like to attend, make sure to call 314-621-8811 for reservations.  Seating is limited and this is sure to sell out fast.

Here’s a look at the menu:

llywelyns-243x300While it’s fun to be on the hunt to try and find that special or fun beer, it can be pretty tiring. Well, you can stop running all around town and visit Llywelyn’s Pub in Webster Groves and St. Charles (and also now in Wildwood!) to see something cool on tap. Llywelyn’s is continuing their program that they’ve been calling “A Brew You Never Knew.”

Each Wednesday, Llywelyn’s will feature a single beer on draught that may have been overlooked or in some cases is the only draught version of that beer in town. It’ll be a chance to re-visit an old favorite or even discover something you’ve never had before.

This week Llyweyln’s in Webster will feature Firestone Walker Wookey Jack on tap. While the St. Charles location will be serving up the Kirkwood Station IPA on draft and the Wildwood location will have Left Hand Wake Up Dead on tap tonight. So, if you’re looking for something special without all of the lists and missed opportunities, make sure to stop into Llywelyn’s in St. Charles, Wildwood or Webster tonight!

STLHops_ShadedWell, Round 1 finished without many surprises. A few interesting matchups, though, are worth talking about. (Click here for all the Round 1 results)

The most glaring match-up final from Round 1 was Augusta Hyde Park Stout which eked out a win over Six Row Porter with a 50-50% split. Crazy.

Another close finish was Six Row Whale edging out Square One Bavarian Weizen, 55.1% to 44.9%. This is Six Row’s first appearance in the 2nd round since 2012.

As each round goes by, the choices get tougher and tougher. Some of the interesting matches in Round 2 include 2nd Shift Art of Neurosis going up against 2nd Shift Brew Cocky. One time champion O’Fallon 5 Day against 4 Hands Centennial Red and Schlafly Kolsch facing off against Schlafly Pumpkin.
