llywelyns-243x300While it’s fun to be on the hunt to try and find that special or fun beer, it can be pretty tiring. Well, you can stop running all around town and visit Llywelyn’s Pub in Webster Groves and St. Charles (and also now in Wildwood!) to see something cool on tap. Llywelyn’s is continuing their program that they’ve been calling “A Brew You Never Knew.”

Each Wednesday, Llywelyn’s will feature a single beer on draught that may have been overlooked or in some cases is the only draught version of that beer in town. It’ll be a chance to re-visit an old favorite or even discover something you’ve never had before.

This week Llyweyln’s in Webster will feature Cathedral Square’s Whiskey-Aged Holy Moly on tap. While the St. Charles location will be serving up the Widmer Brother Raspberry Russian Imperial Stout 13 on draft and the Wildwood location will have Abita Mardi Gras Bock on tap tonight. So, if you’re looking for something special without all of the lists and missed opportunities, make sure to stop into Llywelyn’s in St. Charles, Wildwood or Webster tonight!

ciceros.thumbnailCicero’s Italian Restaurant kicks off their 9th year of Beer School semester this Wednesday from 5:30-6:30PM and a second class from 7PM-8PM. Cicero’s Beer School provides background about beers and beer styles usually directly from people directly in the beer industry. It’s perfect opportunity to learn more about a style you’re unfamiliar with or to just brush up on a style you haven’t enjoyed in a while.

This week’s school is being hosted by Cassidy Paxton of Boston Beer Company. Cassidy will be on hand to discuss and sample Boston Lager, Double Bock, Rebel IPA, Cold Snap. Go out and take advantage of one of the few places where you can drink and learn!

If you can’t make it out to the Beer School, you can check out all of the classes via podcast at Cicerosbeerschool.com.

wineandcheeselogo_128x80.jpgI’m pleased to announce that the two winners for the tickets to the  Wine and Cheese Place/Perennial Fantastic Voyage Release are Seth Verseman and Laura Dalpiaz!

Congrats to Seth and Laura and thanks everyone for entering. If you didn’t win, don’t be too upset, once again I have some cool stuff to give away soon.

I once again want to thank Paul Hayden from The Wine and Cheese Place for donating the two tickets to the tasting. This is an invite only event, but I’m sure you’ll have more chances to get some of these special beers in the very near future.

wineandcheeselogoIn honor of their thirtieth anniversary, The Wine and Cheese Place began working with local brewers to create very special collaborations featuring beers being aged in a number of different barrels. Well, they’ve continued the fun by partnering with Perennial Artisan Ales to create a special version of Fantastic Voyage aged for 18 months in Knob Creek and Blanton bourbon barrels.

Only a very, very limited number of these bottles have been created, which means they’re going to be very difficult to get. But here’s your chance to not only have first crack a purchasing one of these limited bottles but to also attend the release party taking place this Thursday and have your first chance to try this new version of the classic beer.

Send an email to contest@stlhops.com with the subject of Perennial Fantastic Voyage, I’ll randomly pick two winners on Wednesday, January 29th at 9AM. A couple of quick notes:

  • If you’ve won something from STL Hops in the past 6 months, please be cool and let someone else enter.
  • If you can’t attend, please don’t enter.
  • You must be 21 or older to enter.
  • No multiple entries.

Big thanks to Paul Hayden from The Wine and Cheese Place for donating the two tickets to the party.

I’m usually the first person to admit when I’m wrong. Nothing wrong with making a mistake, that’s how we all learn. I will fully admit I was wrong way back in 2009 when the International Tap House in Chesterfield opened.

I thought to myself, “No way this works.”  It’s not that I didn’t trust what co-owners Brad Lobdell and Sean Conroy were doing. It’s not that I didn’t think they could run a bar.  I honestly didn’t trust the St. Louis drinking public to embrace this new kind of bar.

In hindsight, it’s all rather genius.  A beer focused solely on craft beer.  No food, no brewery-on-premise, no gimmicks; just a bar serving awesome craft beer.

Brad and Sean will be the first to admit the concept of a craft-focused bar wasn’t a unique idea.  But opening this kind of bar right on the cusp of a beer Renaissance in St. Louis forever changed how craft beer was viewed in St. Louis.

Five years later, Brad and Sean proved a lot of people wrong. And now it’s time to celebrate how wrong many of us were. To celebrate five years, iTAP Chesterfield will be throwing a week-long celebration.  Here’s the line-up of events:

Sunday February 2nd Super Bowl – Super Share 3PM

  • Bottle Share
  • Homebrew Share
  • Pot Luck

The event will last throughout the Super Bowl and we encourage everyone to bring in a rare/special bottle or even a homebrew for a “kick-off” toast to our 5 years of being open! We’ll also be having a pot luck, so if you’re a good cook, bring plenty to share!

Monday February 3rd – “Memory Monday” 6pm

  • Original beer lineup (or close as we can)
  • DJ Randall at 8pm

We’ll be bringing back our very first draft lineup we had back in 2009, or as close as we can get to it! You’ll be surprised by how far we’ve come in our beer choices in St. Louis! ALL taps will be ½ off.
