Archive for December, 2013

itap-LOGOAs detailed in other posts, I don’t always have much (or any) Christmas spirit. December is not one of my favorite months. One of the things that annoys me the most is just how damned early it gets dark. It’s not much fun to wake up in the dark and come home from work in the dark.

But dark isn’t always bad.  Take for instance the iTAP Nightmare Before Christmas.  Next Saturday, December 14th the International Tap House in Soulard will be putting on a bunch of big, rare beers, and a bunch of dark beers to boot. Then a week later, on December 21st, the Chesterfield location will be putting on a Nightmare of their own. Here’s a list of what to expect:

PrintIf you check Twitter and other social media sites, one of the most asked questions of 4 Hands Brewery is when Cuvee Ange is coming back. Well I’m here to tell you that the time is almost upon us.

On Monday December 9th at 3PM, 4 Hands will release the 2013 version of this beautiful funky beer. Cuvee Ange is a barrel aged farmhouse ale with raspberries and blackberries. The 2013 version spent 10 months in French Oak barrels to enhance its complexity. This year the brewery changed up the packaging a bit, offering it up in stunning 750ml wax dipped bottles with a unique wood label.

The bottle limit for this release at the brewery will be 6 bottles and they’ll go for $14.99 each. For $6 you’ll also be able to grab a 12oz pour in the tasting room while you grab your bottles. So head on over to 4 Hands on Monday afternoon and grab this much anticipated release.

While it’s fun to be on the hunt to try and find that special or fun beer, it can be pretty tiring. Well, you can stop running all around town and visit Llywelyn’s Pub in Webster Groves and St. Charles (and also now in Wildwood!) to see something cool on tap. Llywelyn’s is continuing their program that they’ve been calling “A Brew You Never Knew.”

Each Wednesday, Llywelyn’s will feature a single beer on draught that may have been overlooked or in some cases is the only draught version of that beer in town. It’ll be a chance to re-visit an old favorite or even discover something you’ve never had before.

This week Llyweyln’s in Webster will feature Stone Enjoy By 12/13/13 IPA on tap. While the St. Charles location will be serving up the New Belgium Le Terrior on draft and the Wildwood location will have Six Row Vanilla Porter on tap tonight. So, if you’re looking for something special without all of the lists and missed opportunities, make sure to stop into Llywelyn’s in St. Charles, Wildwood or Webster tonight!

rockbridgeWe’ve been blessed in St. Louis with not only a bunch of new breweries popping up in our neck of the woods, but a bunch of breweries that are turning out some awesome beer.  But the rest of Missouri isn’t immune to this phenomenon. Rock Bridge Brewing in Columbia has been brewing beer since 2012 and has now made their way to St. Louis.

To kick off this event Rock Bridge has teamed up with the International Tap House to put on three events tonight starting at 6PM. Rock Bridge will be pouring their Rye You Lil’ Punk Rye IPA and Saison at the Soulard, Chesterfield and Central West End locations.

For those of you that like the Soulard location there will be a little bonus. Rock Bottom’s Stu Burkemper and Dave Brouder will be on site pouring a firkin of the  Rye You Lil’ Punk Rye IPA. Be sure to head out tonight and see what Columbia has been enjoying for the past year.

tablestlCall me a Grinch, but I’m tired of buying gifts. It’s not that I don’t enjoy giving people presents, but I’m pretty sick of exchanging equal amounts of money for the sake of social obligation. Silly. If I want to buy you a present, I’ll buy you one because I want to, not because of some holiday.

To me the holidays are about the experience. The gathering of friends and family and (hopefully) having a wonderful time together. It’s also about giving back. Many of us are fortunate enough to have enough expendable income to buy things like craft beer, it’s only nice to give back to those that are struggling to get by.

It’s with this spirit of giving and friendship that Perennial Artisan Ales has teamed with Table to put together the 2013 STL Brewers Holiday Party. This event will be taking place on Tuesday, December 10th from 6PM-9PM and the cost of admission is $30 per ticket with proceeds going to Haven House.

Perennial and Table have invited 13 local breweries to provide samples of their winter seasonals along with some delicious hors d’oeurves from Table’s owner/chef Cassy Vires. In the spirit of the holiday season, Perennial and Table are asking guests to bring a donation to the event in the form of unwrapped gifts, personal care items, gift certificates, games, puzzles, cleaning supplies, and cold weather clothing.

Here’s a list of breweries attending this year’s event:

  • Perennial
  • Side Project
  • Civil Life
  • 4 Hands
  • 2nd Shift
  • Urban Chestnut
  • Morgan Street
  • Square One
  • Cathedral Square
  • Crown Valley
  • Schlafly

  • Heavy Riff

Tickets can be purchased now via Brown Paper Tickets. Don’t miss out on this very fun and special event.
